Quaife Diff
MK Charlie - 14/4/08 at 10:35 PM

Took the Indy out for the first real play on Saturday since I fitted the 4.4 quaife LSD a few weeks back. All i can say is WOW! The car is completely different as before it had a 3.62 sierra LSD. It is so much faster on acceleration and all it wants to do is go sideways!

One very happy Indy owner!

What is the top speed now?

Kriss - 15/4/08 at 11:40 AM

How are these different? I thought the LSD was the main attribute to have in a diff, the 3.62 xr4x4 being the best one.

is your top speed reduced somewhat?

I ask as I am having R1 BEC and 3.62 LSD which i thought would be the nuts!

Its all about the ratio as his is a 4.4 it will turn the driveshafts 4.4 times to every 1 revolution of the prop which should technically give better acceleration and lower top end. Charlie how much did the quaife unit set you back and was it new or second hand? and also interested in top speed.

I'm thinking R1 with 3.62 diff but k
now swaying 'busa power.

Go ZX12R and you get Busa power for R1 money.........

With a 4.4:1 diff we would max out at about 106mph. With the 3.62:1 we have, we can reach 129mph - apparently.

the 12 not a fair bit heavier than the r1 thus making the extra bhp only count jus a tad?

Hellfire - 16/4/08 at 01:34 PM

Its not just the bhp that dictates the performance. There are torque issues together with how much balast you are going to carry too. The weight of the driver can have a more significant effect than the extra weight of the engine for instance...

Sure the R1 is a popular choice - if thats what you choose it obviously you're choice but the 'busa has long held the manle for the ultimate bike engine. We're just saying for very little difference go the Kwak route... and save yourself some money.

That is why I was thinking busa for added torque as will prob always drive with a passenger (if I ever build it) and I don't want to see a drastic slump in performance with another 70-80kg onboard. I know ZX12R has more torque and bhp than r1 but not significantly, would prefer to use the lesser engine with bullet proof reliability, tons of parts available and hundreds of members using them or just go the whole hog and get busa.

Sorry about slow reply. Started a new job this week and i've been ill so been in bed a lot. The Indy still does 135, but at much higher revs than before. Got the diff really cheap off a mate who owed me a favour. It is an old casing with all brand new quaife internals and only owes me about £400.
Any of you BEC guys want my old sierra 3.62 LSD? Was fully rebuilt with all new gears 1100miles ago
