I’m getting to the point where I’m so close to firing the RSV up, just wondered if I should buy a power commander now (try and bag a cheap one off
ebay) or try my luck without one.
I am running it without an airbox (foam filter under bonnet) with the standard silencer (this has a cat in it) and the exhaust length has been
lengthened by about 500mm from the stock bike system.
I’m pretty sure that the standard exhaust wont pass emissions (what are the emissions requirements anyway???) my plan is either to run the engine lean
to get it through SVA or fit another cat to the exhaust system.

I gather it is injection? Then the answer is yes!!!!!
Also the standard can CAT is not enough. You will need another one. Look at Martin Kenan's website for the correct one.
He has one in his shop section.
You can buy his for £80 or get one on ebay from the states by a seller iddeanbarnhart for £52 delivered to your door.

So what’s the deal with these power commanders, can I just run the engine lean for the sva (do it myself) and then get it set up properly on a dyno
afterwards (once the cats have been removed).
Could I do a lot of damage doing it myself before the sva?
What are the emissions requirements?
You will need someone with a CAT emissions tester, like a local MOT station.
The best way is rolling road or a wideband lambda sensor and gauge.
If you set it up accurately on a rolling road, then one map will do.
For the sva, they check your emissions at idle and around 3000 rpm.
You could just adjust the standard map to lean out around this, but a word of warning. If you run your engine too lean you can damage your engine!
Look in your sva manual under BET emissions test for the required readings.
I am going the lambda gauge route and I am using a a free flow CAT designed for engines up to 1.6ltrs.
