Can some kind soul give me the correct specs for a set of coil overs and springs for an original book chassis with a 1300 X-Flow and four speed g/box fitted.
I have been informed that the specs in the book are incorrect.
The more I search the more confused I get.
Everyone seems to be using different lengths and springs.
This is for a road only car.
I need open and closed length and spring poundage front and rear please.
I seem to recall that Zeemeride were a no-no. Is this correct.
Feel free to recommend a make.

I think the problem was too little castor in the early edition of the book (the top wishbone mounts needed to be further back or the top bones needed to be made with an increased rearward bias). I think that this may have been altered in later editions, but not in a way that left people satisfied.
I made the top mounts wider to allow adjustments and spaced with washers.
Good luck - this was the part of the build that I had least confidence in - but it turned out all right in the end

You want 12 1/2" open length with 8" springs, poundage for road try 300Lb as a starting point.
Some will say 12" open but that gives you no droop on the damper travel.

Edit for rear Lb try 140 for single driver use and 160 for driver and regular passenger.

If you're buying new shocks, make sure that their damping rate is set for a very light car - Avo did it for me when I ordered, and I am certain that Matt will do it as well if you buy his shocks.

As for rear rates, I agree with Matt - I have 140lb springs, and they're great most of the time with just me in the car. I do hit the stops occasionally, but that's mostly because I'm around 15 stone. They're definitely a bit too light with 2 up.

I use 225 lb front springs and 150 lb rear and find they work well one or two up. I started with 175 and 275 but the ride was very hard and hitting a bump at speed would unsettle the car very badly and mid corner would have it heading for the ditch.
