Hi not a 7 style car but i need some help im no mechanic by any means ..
Car in question is a saxo vtr 1.6 (Please no abuse im not a boy racer ect )
Its covered 68k , noticed on deceleration it has started making a funny noice its like i high pitch sequel (hard to explain)
If its making the noise under deceleration and i apply the throttle the noise stops completely instantly and if i maintain speed it is fine ... Only
ever happens on deceleration and not every time ...
It also still makes the noise if the clutch is depressed on deceleration ..
Its driving me mad i first thought was a drive-shaft but all gators are ok ..
Could this be a gear box issue ? With both wheels off the ground and the car in gear if you spin the drivers side clockwise the passenger side does
spin also but sloppy in doing so this doesn't seem right ....
What should i check ?
Ryan
Gear box oil level, diff? and maybe wheel bearings.. had an awful noise on mine and found it to be the driver side wheel bearing.
Thanks Coozer
I will check the box oil level however its still selects all gears lovely so i didn't think this would be the cause ?
Im starting to think it could be the diff
Whatever it is its fine under load ..
I also cant hear it from outside the car if this makes any difference
Ryan
Not too sure what you mean about decellerating with the clutch pressed?
If you need any parts for this I've got a lockup FULL !
We've just broke one which was built for racing but never actually did a lap in it.

Barkalarr - I will let you know when i know what i need
mcerd1- Firstly im not sure if turning left or right makes any odds i will test in the morning . Second Yes the volume/noise is louder when
decelerating from higher speeds ..
Id be hacked if it was the gearbox ... Few years back i had a 106 GTI (very similar) i drove the car hard and never had a single issue bar the rear
axle and that had 102k when i eventually sold it !!!
Thanks for all the suggestions up to now
from bitter experience my mone is on a wheel bearing
Driveshaft ? Diff or Gearbox ? Wheelbearing ?
Had a weird squealing type noise on one of these once and it went away when you put your foot under the clutch pedal
and lifted it slowly.
Turned out the release bearing had seized solid and was rubbing on the fingers on the clutch cover
Is the noise engine speed related or road wheel speed? Have you tried knocking it out of gear with the clutch up to see if it still does it? or does it only do it with the clutch depressed?
Cheers lad was the drivers side drive-shaft sorted it today got one for £20
nice simple fix
Yep big relief
Was sure it was alot worse .. Maybe that's because it took me 500 miles from it starting to investigating the problem in which it got very loud
Happened to notice while swapping the shaft over that the rear axle has started to go fair bit of camber on the back left
Well know issue with these cars
Anyone ever tried repairing one instead of buying a new or second hand axle ?
