Hi I have just converted from a blackbird to a Rover v8 in a mk. does anyone know the front spring poundage that i will need ?? bearing in mind the Rover V8 is only a few kgs heavier than a Pinto lump??. What springs would you use if it was a pinto

Wow.. talk about opposites! What made you go from a lightweight bike engine to a relatively heavy car engine?

Yeh quite a difference isnt it. Bike engine fantastic quick nimble all those things but!
To manic and harsh cant cruise anything over 70 cause your eyes start to shake in their sockets. I wont loose any performance as the v8 has been tunned to 300 hp so the extra weight should be more than catered for. Basically dont think you can beat a v8 bags of torque and a sound to die for in my opinion

The sound of a V8 alone is enough to make the change.

I've got some 350's from MK, but need some for a BEC.

I believe some BECers have gone for 250 front instead of the 350's. Improved ride but decreased front end stiffness and increased body roll.

Havent a clue !!! they are the originals that were suitable for the blackbird dont no what they would be. If genesis says i need 350lb and you have 2 and you need
some bike ones then, fancy a swopsie??

So the 350lb would be used if you were putting a Pinto in then??. i have adjusted the current springs right up to their max adjustment . There is still damping but i think it will bottom out on a big bump.

I have got a pair of brand new springs, never been fitted. Make me an offer if any good to you.

Here we go on silly springs once again!

Do the maths and work out the weight on each front shocker then you'll get a better idea of what you need.

350 lb is silly, your chassis will do more springing than the springs at that. Fine on a smooth track, useless and crap on the road. will understeer very nicely with those on the front.

My vauxhall engine isn't that much lighter and I will be using 225lb or 250lb on the front, 140lb on the rear.

BY way of comparison, my RWD Pug 205 rally car which weighed 850kg used 200lb front springs and 160 lb rears, although these were fitted vertically so no decrease in effective rate.

If you want a car that FEELS fast, go ahead and fit heavy rate springs. If you want one that actually drives and goes fast on the road, fit some that allow the suspension to move!
