MK1 Escort Crimes
zilspeed - 23/12/11 at 06:11 PM

Right, get your detective groove on.

This car has three crimes against the 70s going on.

Two are visible, one isn't in the pics, but it's still there.

Once you spot the first two, you'll probably guess the third, it's that bad.

Happy spotting.

No glass or front end bodywork either.

steve m - 23/12/11 at 06:21 PM

Its automatic

andyw7de - 23/12/11 at 06:22 PM

Doesnt much look like a 70's steering wheel

Axle (from memory) should be on top of the springs and have a diff in it somewhere so this THING must be front wheel drive ...... OMG

Oh yes and at a guess those wheels are bigger than 13" (seeing as its you thats put it up)

nice arch work though,

zilspeed - 23/12/11 at 06:23 PM

So, FWD.

Two crimes left.

JoelP - 23/12/11 at 06:28 PM

dodgy alloys?

scootz - 23/12/11 at 06:28 PM

It's white!?

zilspeed - 23/12/11 at 06:34 PM

Far far bigger than dodgy alloys or being white.

Far FAR bigger than that.

iank - 23/12/11 at 06:40 PM

Rubber band tyres?

spiderman - 23/12/11 at 06:42 PM

1. Rear doors welded shut to turn it from 4 door to 2 door?
2. Dodgy alloys with rubber band tyres?
3. FWD?

Are those the three answers you were hoping everyone would guess?

stevec - 23/12/11 at 06:43 PM

Is it a 4 door made into a 2 door?

Steve

Edit; bugger just too late on the 4 door bit.

[Edited on 23/12/11 by stevec]

zilspeed - 23/12/11 at 06:45 PM

Nearly there !!

It's a 4 door welded up to a 2 door.

It's been converted to FWD.

And the engine is a........

iank - 23/12/11 at 06:47 PM

Vauxhall or Japanese...

Volvorsport - 23/12/11 at 06:48 PM

japanese ?

zilspeed - 23/12/11 at 06:49 PM

Nope, Ford :-)

mark chandler - 23/12/11 at 06:54 PM

Diesel ?

r1_pete - 23/12/11 at 06:56 PM

with those massive cables dangling about looks like its converted to prius power (or lack of)

MikeRJ - 23/12/11 at 06:58 PM

What sort of fool would convert a Mk1 Escort to FWD? Must be the nemesis of David Bignold and Bill Payne paying them back for converting all those Mk3 Escorts to RWD

zilspeed - 23/12/11 at 07:01 PM

Mark Chandler got the last.

4 door MK1 Escort welded up to a 2 door.
Converted to FWD.
1.8TD Escort engine and box.

Just wrong.

steve m - 23/12/11 at 07:02 PM

chainsaw?

Even worse then, because if you really wanted to install an agricultural, underpowered, smokey diesel engine into a Mk1, the 1.8TD will bolt up to a Type9 so would have made a pretty simple conversion.

Ninehigh - 23/12/11 at 07:52 PM

Indeed the 2 door conversion is a bit dodgy, and welding the doors is a cop out.
Fitting a diesel engine isn't the end of the world, but a fwd conversion? Why the f?

TAZZMAXX - 23/12/11 at 10:03 PM

It never ceases to amaze me with builds like this that the amount of effort involved in carrying it out could've been better utilized. What a waste.

Ben_Copeland - 23/12/11 at 10:45 PM

So where did you find this wonder? Lets us at him !!!

zilspeed - 23/12/11 at 11:29 PM

On a guitary type forum.

Further than that, I won't say

skodaman - 24/12/11 at 01:11 AM

Could be worse it could have a bike engine.

at least a bec would probably still be rwd!

I think the biggest crime is the crap diesel. I can accept that maybe he prefers fwd, for whatever reason, but that is a poor choice of engine. He must be motivated by economy, but a modern engine would be so much better.

Sorry still think the fwd is the biggest crime.. You wouldn't notice much difference with that power but he's done a lot of work for zero benefit. Heck he could have even just stuck it straight onto the original gearbox!
