Yes, pointless. It presupposes that one of BEC or CEC is best and generates heat without any chance of agreement.

BEC isn't better, CEC isn't better, they are just different, pick the one that suits what you want to do best.

IDONTBELEIVEIT - 19/11/08 at 06:20 PM

a bit controversial this, but the way i see it is that i have built this style of car to get cracking 0-60 times(BEC 1 cec NILL)to get round corners as fast as possible(BEC 2 cec NILL)noise BEC wins again (apart from maybe big block chevvies coming a close second
what else is there???? Rescued attachment freebird.gif

Driving on normal roads (with other people around) and driving on motorways are two things that come to mind.

Got a tin top for that sorta thing.

To enter into the debate motorways, not a lot of fun in a CEC or a BEC, normal roads, give me a sissy BEC every time.

All my humble opinion btw but it wont change.

BenB - 19/11/08 at 06:47 PM

Isn't this like having an argument about which are better blondes or brunettes?

You need to make a direct comparison.

what you need is one of each

[the rest of message is deleted for being too rude]

As posted by others I have a diesel tin top with cruise control for slogging up and down boring motorways.

For a fun toy at the moment for me a BEC is where its at.

Just to add another one in, how much does a sequential box for a CEC cost?

You gotta love lightening fast flat shifts with ignition cut.

Antnicuk - 19/11/08 at 08:00 PM

i have had lots of big bikes but never been in a BEC. If anyone in essex wants to swap test drives, i would like to see what all the fuss is about....... you may even convert me as i'm looking for another project

locoR1 - 19/11/08 at 08:01 PM

Antnicuk just trying to figure out where you car fits into this debate! Yours must be a REC
So your 500 BHP per ton is fairly useless in this debate thank god! looks like bec is still on top

Love the black and white looks on the Stylus

roadrunner - 19/11/08 at 08:23 PM

I have had both BEC and CEC and i know which one i am sticking with, all the way up to 13000 revs.

Volvorsport - 19/11/08 at 08:41 PM

i think the argument should really stem from which type of CEC you have .

i mean who can realistically buy a donor with the potential for 250 hp for £100 and build the car from it .

i know i can !

me too!

Thanks Loco R1, if you are going to the pod anytime, give me a shout, i wouldnt mind seeing what mine will actually do in a straight line. In all seriousness, i think i would struggle with low 12s. What BHP is yours putting out?

Paul (Notts) - 19/11/08 at 09:10 PM

Why is it that the BEC brigade always have to try and start an argument over whose car is the best. ?

Anyone might get the impression that they have an inferiority complex over the size of the engine.

Paul

as with everything in life - Size matters

oh dear..... mines only a 1.3

didnt anybody tell you, its not how big it is, its how how big the turbo is

Dangle_kt - 19/11/08 at 09:51 PM

HAHA!

I love winding you guys up.

My point is the same as last time.

You CEC boys insist on ripping into BEC cars, but we DO NOT do it to you. I am just proving a point.

How about you guys lay off the BEC bashing and start promoting the virtues of your choices rather than decrying others.

RANT OVER. LETS HUG!

I'll change my avatar back in a bit, but before I do I will leave my creation for posterity!

because it's a joke and BEC people are easy to wind up XD

lol

RK - 20/11/08 at 02:06 PM

Some of my best friends have BEC's. Not that it matters of course.

Mine should be able to
Here is a similar car running 11.9 ET I think it was.

I looked into BEC but figured it would cost more, be less reliable and not keep up to my friends in their V8 cars.
If I built a stripped down track car I would go BEC I think.
Cheers.

roadrunner - 26/11/08 at 08:18 PM

Remember, if you have a big engine you are trying to make up for something else.

speedyxjs - 27/11/08 at 12:03 PM

How about a proper race to settle this? Not your normal race. Do it in reverse

flak monkey - 27/11/08 at 12:38 PM

BEC's might take a bit of a knock when IVA comes in due to requiring a reverse gear. Suddenly adds quite an expense.

Lets face it, if you want a track car or one for quick sunday morning blats a BEC is the way to go.

If you want something for cruising and longer journeys, road use and with higher reliability go CEC.

Any of you BEC boys fancy coming down to spain in your cars with me next year?

David

RK - 27/11/08 at 01:39 PM

Get a supply of earplugs for them, and they'll all show up, and you'll pay for your trip!!!

Wanna bet?

Besides, I've yet to see a locost with what I would call a "big engine". At 3.8L mine is the smallest engine I've had in one of my fun cars. Before that I guess the smallest would be a 5.8L. That being said, this is the smallest/lightest car I've built so far.
Cheers.

Doesn't the world record for highest speed in reverse belong to a Tiger BEC? 6 reverse gears?

The reason I have a CEC is that I need all that extra torque to carry around the sheet weight of my penis
