I have to say, I hate the cake smash craze that has landed here from America. Why would you want to teach that smashing up food is a good thing? But good luck all the same to your sister, it just isn't for me!

Hats off to your sister... Ive photographed a couple of cake smashes and they are hard work. Although not as hard as a newborn shoot

She does those as well.

Karen was made redundant a few years ago from a firm she worked for most of her adult life and decided to go into photography full-time. She has won many awards, from her website,

"I have won many bronze, silver and gold awards with the SWPP and The Guild of Photographers, but it is of my most significant awards to date that I am most proud. I achieved "Craftsman" status from The Guild of Photographers in 2013 making me the very first Craftsman in the UK in the genre of Studio Children's portraiture. Also at the beginning of 2014 I was delighted to be awarded 'The People Photographer of the Year' award by the Guild of Photographers and their Overall 'Photographer of the Year 2013'! "

She is also an ambassador for Olympus cameras now.

I posted this partly to show how proud I am of my kid sister and partly to show that if you do what you love there maybe 'hope' after redundancy.

For those that don't like cake smash....it is the choice of the clients.
