Where can i buy a reasonable sized tub lets say 1lb of boric acid in powder form?

Also what is Whiting powder and where can i get it?

May be wrong but I think that you can get both items at your local chemist. Mind you that does depend on how helpful they want to be. Ray.

Boric or boracic acid is an antiseptic available widely and also used as an insecticide. Are you making Cockroach repellent or dry rot treatment?

I seem to remember using Boric as flux for brazing or soldering in metalwork at skool? and then using whiting as a neutralizer?

Boric acid in a paste form is used as a very effective flux in both silver and gold soldering. Every bench jeweler I know uses it. I used to do some jewelry work myself. Here in the States you can find it at most large drug stores.

The dusting powder for Cockroaches is usually Boric acid.

Drain cleaner is Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide) don't put that on the Dog!!

Remember they are for life not just Xmas!!

You should be able to get Boric Acid from Boots pharmacy, it's an antiseptic. They will just ask you questions about why you want it.

"Boric acid, also called boracic acid or orthoboric acid, is a mild acid often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, in nuclear power plants to control the fission rate of uranium, and as a precursor of other chemical compounds. It exists in the form of colorless crystals or a white powder and dissolves in water. It has the chemical formula H3BO3, sometimes written B(OH)3. When occurring as a mineral, it is called sassolite."

Try your local nuclear power station, if you're lucky it may glow in the dark making it easier to find in the workshop!

Dogs got fleas and has had them on and off for the last 2 months and having read up on the net about their lifecylcle i need to make sure that the carpets are clear of eggs and larvae.

I suspect the flea eggs were in the house before we moved in 2 months ago as the couple that were there before us had a dog and it was a working farm dog and looked a big minging to be honest!

Reading on the net a good and effective killing method is to mix 20% Boric acid with 80% whiting and sprinkle on the carpet and leave for up to a week then hoover it out.

Want to get it done before Christmas as we have family (12!) coming round on Christmas day.

I take my dog to work too and she is in the office all day with my gaffers chocolate lab. both dogs have been treated but the problem keeps reappearing.

just burn the carpets, everyones just got floor boards these days...
