need to replace my K&N filters on my webber 40's because the elements have had it. should I keep the K&N's and fit new elements or would a pipercross or other foam type filter be better.thanks. m.

ITG. Fed up of re-oiling the K&N's. Alsoly the ITG's are reasonably priced...

also itg is used in big race outfits a lot of the time like parma raceing and vauxhall opel rallying and k and n are no good for some cars as it can oil the air temp censer and give a false reading eg Mitsubishi evo but its your call

ITG foams flow a lot better than K&Ns. Cheaper too....

Can we back this up ?

Also take into account filtration ?

Don't foam filters have to be oiled too to work properly ?

Willing to learn.

I oil my foams with ITG spray.

Just thinking about it logically, K&N's do not allow a straight flow into the trumpets of the carbs/throttle bodies, ITG's do, so thats got to be a bonus straight off.

The K&N cotton filters are quite densely packed, which is good for filtration but not as free flowing as foam. If you look at the ITG foam its in about 3 layers. Outside layer is very open, then the inner two get gradually finer.

The ITG's certainly trap a lot of fine dust as well if they are oiled.

But the plate on the K&N can/does assist power, think about an air box, plenum chamber, all that is lost on foam filters.

I,m happy to be educated but would like to see figures to do it rather than hearsay.

Interesting debate but whether you choose K&N or ITG is there a recognised locost supplier to buy them from? Fleabay is the best I can come up with.
