Diff flange

Hi

I have noticed a significant amount of oil leaking from my 7" Seirra diff.

The area that is leaking is around the "washer" under the locking nut on the splined shaft. This washer
seems to be a permanent fit and rotates. Is this correct and why does it rotate.?

How is this sealed to stop the oil from leaking down the splines and out through the nut/washer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
John

The "washer" is a dust/muck deflector, to stop stuff going in to the oil seal. Behind the "washer" is an oil seal which sounds as though it needs relaceing, not a big job but may need the diff removed, depending on how much room you have to get at it. HTH Ray

to be fixed in place

The washer is in fact part of the drive plate, and comes off as one piece once you have removed the nut. Cheers Ray
