Sierra CWP change
pigiron - 18/12/12 at 11:13 PM

I have a 3.62:1 7.5" LSD but need a lower ratio and don't want to spend a fortune on aftermarket parts.

I'm hoping, subject to finding one, fit the crown wheel and pinion from a Scorpio 7.5", 4.27:1 open diff.

Is this do-able, are ther any pitfalls I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Setting up the pinion lash is important
Setting the bearings up also needs care
This mod is generaly not considered easy for the home builder
It can be done but get it wrong and the normaly very reliable Sierra diff can be ruined quickly

I've got a Cosworth Scorpio on my drive I'm breaking, would that have the right bits for you?
I,m not sure whether it already has an LSD?

Where are you based?

Thanks for the replies, I'm in Brittany but that is no problem I am used to sending a courier to collect my parts.

Melly-g, it may be.

According to this usefull site.

"Most but not all 24v Cosworth Granada/Scorpio (up to approx 1994 are LSD, after that they are 'open' type because the Scorpio 24v had traction control instead)"

Does yours have the tag still attached perhaps?

I'll try and get under it over the weekend to have a look.
It should be a good one though as the car has only done about 60K.
