GSXR 1000 exhaust can repacking?

Tested my engine today and with the car in the garage the sound peaked at 101db so I need to knock it down a bit. Was thinking of getting a db killer but opinions seemed mixed on them.My silencer is from a gsxr 1000 k4 bike and I'm running it with an 1800 pinto. The can is marked as being titanium and looking at the outlet end there are 3 cap head screws that have been tack welded to secure them. Would it be possible to break the tacks and repack the can.the inlet end is sealed and has a cat in it.

How much difference is repacking likely to make?

depends how little packing there is in now.
My can got very noisy a few months back ,I took the end off and it was empty.
I got some acoutifil and now its much better.

id break the tacks and see if it comes apart. it probably will

The noise test is carried out side away from any buildings that can cause the readings to be higher due to echoing IIRC

I've read a few comments about needing to get acoustafil hot before it will work properly and needing to take the car for a run. As I'm not iva'd will I be able to get the packing hot enough on the drive, or will I end up making it noisier?

as mentioned here make sure test is carried out well away from buildings and check the regs to see what the ground clearance for the test needs to be, we run 65mm ground clearance and have to put the outfit up on stands or readings are completly different

Hmmm, well repacking is a no go. Ground the tacks off the bolts and took the cover off. Inside are the steel innards that seem to have been locked in by wrapping the outer lip of the silencer in on itself. With the cap off I shoved a db killer down the pipe. Haven't had chance to test in anger but idle was 4db less than before.
