alternative to K series?
Beardy - 15/3/14 at 12:08 AM

Hi All,

Thought I would consult the mass experience and collective brain power of the Borg...

Looking for fwd engine with exhaust on the front. Same as Rover K or Zetec(?) and the other side from Sigma and Duratec. Looking for something in the ~2litre sort of range, prefeaby light and all the other good things (low cost, revy immensely powerful etc......

For your curiosity its for a Mid-engined car but I want the intake at the back where it has most room for a proper induction length. Room on the `front' of the enigne is limited.

Many thanks

May not be the lightest but Toyota 3SGE? Late ones have 180bhp and are cheap as chips

That has the same arrangement as the older Mi16 engine, i.e. induction at the front and exhaust at the rear (when mounted in a FWD car), opposite to the Zetec and K-Series.

Honda B series is certainly worth considering, ticks all the boxes apart from 'low cost', and even the 1.6 is more powerful than most 2.0L engines.

There's always the Vauxhall 20XE, though they aren't very light to put it mildly.

1.8 turbo k series are around 120kg fully dressed and with the z and f map they produce 210bhp, you can use an mgf pg1 gearbox and linkages, even use the complete mgf body loom for ease and the engine loom is a simple two wires added for the boost solenoid
