DVLA & Engine Swap
davidimurray - 19/2/18 at 11:39 AM

I need to get around to registering my engine swap with the DVLA, 1.8 Pinto to 2l Duratec.

Has anyone registered a swap with DVLA recently and how anal are they being?

I have a receipt for the engine so was going to send them a copy of that and some pictures of old engine being removed and new fitted with engine numbers.

Will that be enough to satisfy them?

Since I'm just building a new engine I'd be interested in this too. The proposed changes to Emissions/IVA don't effect engine changes AFAIK but I'm tempted to get the change registered ASAP.
I'll be sending a receipt for the engine plus a letter from my MOT tester and photos.

When I tried they said they needed an engineers report from a garage stating what had been done. Probably nothing to stop you writing the engineers report yourself though.

Recently done this myself.

Filled in the relevant sections on the V5 for engine number and CC with the new information.
Sent to DVLA along with pictures showing the old one in the car, then the new one. Letter explain I had replaced the engine, and a receipt for the engine that listed the serial number on it.

Just followed the advice in the below link. Make sure you send it to the correct postcode. There are two shown. I sent it to the one listed as CC increase.

Took the full 6 weeks to get it back, but no queries at all.

If you've already been through IVA then this won't be any good. I did the engine swap on the original sierra vehicle v5 before I submitted the Iva docs.

I've got to do this soon, but I have no receipt for the engine as it came out of a car I own.
How do I get on with this? will I have to get an engineer to check it and write a report?

Thanks for the feedback - will get my paperwork together and send it off.

I've got to do the same with an engine that was already fitted when I bought the car. I'm just going to get the local garage to write on headed paper saying something along the lines that they can confirm vehicle with reg XXXX has had engine with number of XXXX fitted and is correctly installed.

I had to have a letter from a garage confirming the engine swap, but that was because I Was going into the lower PLG tax band going to 998cc.

Just to close off this, sent off my updated V5, engine receipt and photos of old and new engine in the car/being fitted. Took about 7 week to get the paperwork back but no further questions and a fresh new updated V5.
