Tiger Avon Wishbone Advice

Hi, I am new to this forum and looking for help.

Story so far bought a Tiger Avon Chassis from ebay two nights ago.

Before I waste a lot of time was wondering what the experience guru's on this forum advise me to do for sourcing front and rear wishbones ready for fitting the suspension. Cheers Ste.

I just fitted snake Bellys wishbones last night.

If your wanting to do track days get them :-)

Ohhh n the wishbone ball joints are top one are the transit drop link, they do 2 one about m18 and one about 1" it's the thinner one.

Second is bottom one which has caused me he'll. they are fiat 124 qsj765 about £9.50 each. They are not 3 bolt maxi.....

Other than that good luck.

I had my wishbones fitted last night which are great. They are 30mm wider to remove under steer or reduce it.

Hi David, thanks for the advice

I think my plan will be to keep the set up standard until I get it IVA for the road.

Snakebite modifications look very good and i will consider them in future

You dont want to sell your standard ones by any chance?

Just clarify the new bones will have no bearing on iva, they also come with a sleeve nut camber adjuster built in. Not trying to dissuade you I don't do these as a commercial proposition just as a service to the Avon crowd after spending a couple of years developing them on our race Avon. All I would say is that quality is not compatible to the factory items, the polybush tubes actually line up for a start :-) although they work out about the same cost I woul be remiss not to point out that tigers are powder coated and mine come in bare steel. As snakebite lol said they are just 30mm wider they fit in the standard chassis brackets n offer you better quality wishbones than the standard ones. Laptoprob may still have his standard ones but I'm not see. I looked at the pro's n cons and given i want track day first n iva in a few year I didn't want to pay out twice.

I had one side left after my crash chassis but if you look at them side by side they are so different and snakebellys are far superior n stronger.

Anyway I hope your build goes well.

One thing to mention is that if you buy the normal wishbones you need to thread the rack ends down 10mm so your rack extensions fit .... But if you use these ones I just used standard rack extensions n I setup mine last night. Camber set well.... Although I don't finish welding n adjusting stuff till 4:30pm

My advise is if you can buy second hand ones and you have a ready modded rack then stick with the standard wishbones but if you plan to use on a track at high speed and don't like user steer or your going to buy new ones and you have a standard rack n extensions then get his.....

Hi, firstly a big thank you to everyone for all your feedback and advice...

Snakebelly, only just noticed the U2U option on this forum and read your link..

I agree your wishbones look a far superior product and if I have to buy a set of new ones I will be giving you a shout. However as I need a full set for both front and rear of the chassis and I am not in any rush I am going to see if I can pick cheap set of second hand ones up whilst I start to identify/collect other items for my build to store in my garage ready for assembling my project at a future date... At this moment I have only just started reading up on the Tiger Avon and have not made any decision on what route my build with take,,

Steven,

One thing I have earned from having a tiger after getting rid of my locost is nothing fits from the locost with a mod or not at all.

Front are rear wishbones are different from everything else.
Body panels are tiger only
Rear prop is standard
Steering Column is heavy modded
Rack needs modding
The body is narrow so seats don't normally fit with extra thin ones
Chassis is low in height so fitting an engine is harder
Fuel tank is a struggle to get a generic one to fit
Pedal box has to be floor mounted if your tall

That said I love my car and it will be much better on the track and daily road use than all the other options I looked at.

Don't make the mistakes I made.

Buy the tiger avon book from Laura at tiger first and get the bits from someone who knows tigers.

If your looking for used parts we have a type 9 to sierra props haft and also a spare ford viscous LSD not used since it was rebuilt by road and race transmissions its a 3.62,
Any off to swim with elephants :-)

He messaged you on your other thread he picks up u2u messages quickly

Also get as much a you can off him parts dot come up often I've even looking for 2 years for my parts any only just got the last few in the last month or so.
