front wings

hi

thinking about fitting my front cycle wings so just a couple of questions.

1. whats the best way of fixing them to the brackets?????

2. which is the corret position????? how far back over the wheel if you know what i mean.

Question 1: fit them with gunge - I used 'Tigerseal'.
Question 2: see the drawing in the IVA manual - it is self - explanatory.

The manual shows the wing just forward of the front of the rim, i thought that someone posted that the wing must be at least forward of the tyre, right / wrong ?

er, wrong. The front of the wing must be just in front of the rim (as stated above) and the back edge needs to come just below the centreline of the wheel.

And to answer Martin who was rich in'67's question; no, mine don't wobble at all - even at 120 mph. Let me see if I can find a piccy of the gungy stuff fitment...yes - not very clear, because after fitting the stays, I also used some of Car Builder Solution's um, solution called 'Wunderseal' on them.

Is there any logical reason for that amount of coverage?

Ie the back is to stop stones being thrown up (not that I think it would stop that)

As above on position and i also used some tiger seal type stuff and was perfect, survived 110mph at north weald with no noticeable movement at all.

Mine snapped again today - same bracket different place.

I think it needs a new bit of flat bar - maybe it's fatigued.

Ah well, caliper and wishbone off again tomorrow to allow repairs!

There was a thread ages ago saying the forward measurement
was a vertical line off the wheel rim but that would change
depending on the wheel size whereas the 30deg forward will
always be in the same position.

I was having a similar discussion after posting photos of my finished car when someone commented that my cycle wings wouldn,t pass the IVA requirements, so I copied all the measurements as stated in the IVA manual onto a perspex sheet & placed it against my wheels to check my wings.

Below is a pic of how it translates & you can see that my wings will pass the IVA test.



Hope this pic helps, it also depends on the individual shape/style of the cycle wing in relation to what position of the wing will pass/fail
