Hello All

the story so far...

i wrote my kit car off a few weeks ago, on the motorway and had it recoverd home, i called the insurence, they said they will send a in house engneer round to clarifiey it was a write off, his repair bill was around £14,500+.

he said normaly they find 3x cars of the same make model and built quality and spec and value it in the middle but there un able to find any other mk indys to a similer spec to mine.

ive emailed mk sportscars who said there happy to do a valuation with pictures prior to the crash, so sent them loads of pictures about 2-3 weeks ago and still awaiting, lol

thought i would see what you guys would valule it at?

I can't get the links to work.

What year is it... how many miles... how many owners... condition... Q plate or age related!?

Why don't you just post pictures we can see instead of putting in links to all these web photo places that we, the majority, have no intention of joining?

Pdlewis - 16/5/12 at 12:54 PM

you dont need to join just download the zip file no need to sign in

I've uploaded all the photos to my flickr stream, viewable here:

I would say £6.5k tops would do it... The engine isn't worth a great deal (although I appreciate it has had quite a few upgrades), but you have added a number of quality parts, such as the brakes... There are a couple of similar cars for sale, but advertised price does not mean it is worth it, so you really need to look at cars that sold (ebay would be good for that).

ZX9 powered Indy - overpriced?
ZX12R powered Indy - much sought after engine, but a bit rough around the edges

£6k is my ballpark (assuming it was a good un).

start them at 7k hoping for around 6.5k and buy the salvage back for a couple of hundred quid.

big_l - 16/5/12 at 02:44 PM

It's not always what it's worth it's what's it going to cost to replace !!!

Just because people are selling them for 6-7 k doesn't mean you can replace it for that kit cars are so diffent it's very hard to put a replacement price of them !!!

mk-indy-zx9r - 16/5/12 at 03:27 PM

i insured it for £8000, due to the attention to detail and quality of parts used in the build.

im kind of hoping the insurance pay me out for enough to buy another to the same quality. (not found one yet)

they seem to sell for around £7500 to a similer spec with paddle shift and wilwood calipers etc.

was hoping you guys were going to tell me it was worth this

i thought insurence replace like for like if fully comp?

if i insured for £8000 is this not the figure they should pay me back when the car is stolen or writen off?

thanks for all the info so far & posting a working link im not to good at links, lol

Unless you have an agreed value on your insurance, then you will be paid what they feel is Market Value. I've no idea why they ask what its worth when you take out insurance cause it is totally irrelevant.

It surprises me that even insurance companies who specialise in kit cars dont use specialist kit car assessors and just take the same approach as they would to a tin top.
Ask them straight out if they will be putting a Cat C marker on the car - they usually dont for kit cars which is good news but check anyway.

Any deal you do with them make sure you get to keep the car as part of the deal then just replace the bits that need it and spend the rest on a holiday.
