Kawasaki ZX14R / ZZR1400 engine and differential length?
Winston Todge - 9/4/19 at 08:37 PM

Hey all,

Could someone measure the total length of their ZX14R install and chain diff if they have used it?

I'm trying to fit a setup similar to this into a Toyota iQ rear end... I think I am way out in space unfortunately.

The space behind the driver's seat is 700mm total and the engine is 420mm of that, while requiring the drive shafts exit roughly in the centre of the wheel centres, I think there isn't a chance.

I'm looking at a similar diff to this from Westgarage Engineering...

Any advice would be great.

Ta,

Chris.

Nothing technical to add but I have seen an hayabusa motor in the back of a smart car so it makes me think it must be possible.

I've fitted chain drives down to about 205mm between sprocket centers.

This one was a Hayabusa with a 16T sprocket and 48T differential sprocket.

I have dimensioned sketches of the IB5ATB with pivot mount and ER4 electric reverse if you PM me.
Doug.

Approx 750/800mm total from front of headers to rear of chainwheel/starter motor for electric reverse (ZZR 1400) - seems very similar to dig. above for the 'Busa

Thanks for the responses people.

I'm thinking that trying to get the engine and differential / reverse one behind each other just isn't going to work with the space I've got...

Looking at how the smart conversions achieve it and they tend to stack the engine above the differential and use a jack shaft to the take the drive out and down to drive the diff below the engine. This shortens the whole install a heap.

I'm looking at fabricating / sourcing something like these from the Smartzuki website...

Anyone know if there are any suppliers of the Smart bike conversion drivetrains around?

Ta,

Chris.

PS. Does anyone know why I can't post pictures hosted by third parties?!

i.e. the [img][/img] code isn't working above in my post.

It is because that is a google created link not a photo.

I can't see any way of linking to the original .jpg from the google album.

Think you will need to try another 3rd party hosting site.

I've made output shaft extensions for Smart Car conversions.
