Blade 954 Problems
minordelay - 3/5/07 at 05:14 PM

Has anyone else fitted a late 954 Blade engine?

First problem I have come across is that the exhaust ports are oval. MK have modded the exhaust which sort of gets round that problem, but the pipes are fouling the chassis top rail, or they would be if I could get them in. So that will need another mod. Second problem is the airbox it sits really high, too high to get the bonnet on!!!!!! It can't be modified as there's a second set of injectors which direct the fuel directly down the throats.

So far we have come up with a couple of options.
1.Send engine back
2.Lower engine which will cause more underhanging sump.
3. Tilt engine slightly to give clearance for exhaust tubes and not worry about the oil !!!! and fabricate new air box out of Ali.

We havn't even looked at the wiring yet.

This car will not really see much action as it is a college project.

I can post some pics of engine height and exhaust tube clearance.

Sorry for the long post

Cheers for any help offered.

There is a baffled sump made of billet ally now available for the 954cc which shortens it a fair bit. I think its Andy from AB Performance that has made them to good effect. Ill be getting one for mine at a later date.

Is your sump horizontal atm? I wouldnt personally lean the engine further to the left as you dont want to upset the oil pickup point.

Yes my sump is horizontal atm, I have looked in your archive and our engine is different. It has no swingarm mount as part of the casing and it's got a hydraulic clutch too. Life is never simple.

Youve just reminded me to update my pics!

Hi
the engine you are describing is a cbr1000rr, we have done a hell of alot with the rgb boys running them.
We do a swing gate sump, clutch slave relocating kit and have come up with a mod to lower overall engine height - give me a call on 01449 736633 and I should be able to help answer a few questions. We have learnt (to our cost) that these motors can be a nightmare to install, however when you get them right they are awesome
