To Chop, Or not to chop - Fireblade Sump
charlierevell - 18/4/08 at 09:53 AM

Hi Guys,

The lower part of my 954 fireblade sump sticks out the bottom of the car rather a lot. Having the sump bolt underneath restricts it even further.

Is it safe to reduce the pan by say 25-35mm and put the bolt on the side?

Its already baffled.

It clips the odd speed bump, my drive and could well hit something when out playing hard.

Any hints and tips on this would be great - I can get hold of a sump, just not sure if its safe to do on this engine!
Any photos would be great!

Cheers!

I know it's not a Blade one, but i have done this to mine, other people have done the same with no problems.

Had seen yours, exactly what i want to do to the blade one, but with the bolt to one side instead.
Are you aware of any oil issues? Mines already baffled too.

I believe it is safe as companies sell billet sumps that are shallower - look on eBay and you'll find the AB Performance ones - talk to Andy Bates himself - he's extremely knowledgable when it comes to Blade (and other) bike engines as he preps most of the RGB engines.

I understand the blade is ok with merely a relocated drain plug - that's it. Our's was exactly the same and did countless trackdays and 1000's of miles with no issues.

When the new one arrives ill have a look at that then and see if i can get away with it. (its what i'd rather do!)
It does seem to add a lot on to the depth.

Cheers Graham, I knew he'd done at least one 954. Sadly since moving job he can no longer do them as he doesnt have access to the facilities etc at work.

cheers
Chris
