Is it solid rear axle? I am lead to believe that the Lada back axle is dimensionally identical to the Escort, that the Escort prop flange will fit the diff and that it has needle roller bearings and alloy drums. Therefore superior to the Ford axle. Anyone verify this?

there is not so much projects like this in Russia. I am in first 5. I know all others.

dr-fastlane - 23/8/09 at 09:19 PM

welcome to locostbuilders!

The car looks really good. It’s good to see someone dare to take the adventure and building a car in Russia. Not the easiest country to do such project. Also did read your website, great work!

Must be a great feeling to drive it down the streets of Moscow (when it’s not to cold)

certainly looks just like the 'english axle' from the ford escort. a good find! i wonder if the diff etc are the same? worth looking into

Privet!! Kak dela?

Ti Machina krasivaya!!

Still learning so probably dosent make any sense!

CGILL - 24/8/09 at 07:36 AM

An escort head fits the lada housing if you make up a 3mm spacer.
Casting of side gears not quite as good as Ford item.
Nice and light though....
Early 3 series BMW discs (E28??) can be made of fit with a small spacer on the front uprights.
Gearboxes drop bearings easy, factory ones are soft, aftermarket ones do some justice.

Nice car, well done.
