welcome

wilkingj - 25/12/12 at 11:48 AM

Welcome to the madhouse.

Please can you put your approx location in your profile.

Take it easy in thet Viento, especially in the Damp conditions.
They stick to the road very well. However, they do let loose eventually and usually rather spectacularly.

I wouldnt take mine out in the wet and damp, mainly due to the crap, crud and SALT on the roads at this time fo the year.
As they are lightweight cars, they dont like wet and slipper conditions.
Be patient, take it easy, learn how your car drives, and enjoy it.

Last thing you want is a summer rebuild project when you should be out there enjoying it at its best.

Again.... Welcome.

Geoff

PS... dont be afraid to ask questions, as there is a wealth of knowlege on here

VIENTOV8 - 25/12/12 at 04:52 PM

Hi Guys

I am brand new to the locostbuilders site and must confess dont really think I am capable of building a whole car.

I've been researching sites and looking to buy a Luego Viento for quite a while now, ever since I sold my Westfield which was too much of a squeeze!

Looking for something meaty, but not too meaty as I dont want it to restrict the driving (price of fuel and all), thinking from a 2.9 granada with cosworth tuning, up to 3.5 V8, but will consider anything?

I'm a bit of a tart so it must be clean.

Your thoughts and contact details of where I can get a good one would be appreciated.

Regards
Graham

Welcome to the forum. you might be better off posting in the wanted section of the forum. Don't know of any Viento for sale at the moment but keep an eye out in the for sale section as well

parkeg02 - 21/1/13 at 07:52 PM

Will do, many thanks.

I'll keep you all informed on my searches.

rusty nuts - 21/1/13 at 08:48 PM

Might also be worth getting to a few shows and meeting a few Luego owners , you never know someone may be thinking of selling?

Hi Graham,

It would help if we knew what you are expecting or willing to pay for a good Viento,.... you never know it may tempt someone to sell as everything has a price.....well it does in my world anyway lol.

Alfie

parkeg02 - 22/1/13 at 06:55 PM

Good point Alfie

Now someone please put me straight if I'm not in the right area and please dont take this as an insult, but Ive seen old ads etc and am looking to pay between £6000 and £7000.

What do you think?

Regards
Graham

alfiebeard - 22/1/13 at 08:45 PM

Hi Graham,

You will probably find a reasonable Viento for that sort of money..... but I must say £7k is the lower end of the scale for a nice big engined one, you may get a good one needing a little work though, and obviously winter is the best time to buy one, there was a thread somewhere on here about prices.......maybe worth doing a search.

Good hunting and hope you find the one you want.

Alfie

parkeg02 - 23/1/13 at 09:44 PM

Thanks Alfie

Whats your estimation of what I'll have to pay for agood one?

Regards
Graham

alfiebeard - 23/1/13 at 09:58 PM

Hi Graham,

I would think you could pay up to about £9k to £10k for a really nice fully speced well fettled big engined Viento.

I was offered £9k at a rally last year by an enthusiast for my M3 Viento,....... I was sorely tempted to accept but I wanted to use it for the rest of the summer so I said no, he did eventually get a nice V8 for £9k off Pistonheads.

Its not an easy question to answer really as most guys put their heart and sole into the build of their beloved cars and it is like parting with a member of the family for some.

I tried a few before settling on mine, I am 6ft and a fattish git so most were too cramped or a real struggle to get in, but the Viento has loads of room inside and are pretty long so you can work on them easily even with big engines fitted.

The only downside is that they are very wide so you need to check drive gates/garage doors etc before you get one

Regards

Alfie

Irony - 23/1/13 at 10:32 PM

My Viento is pretty huge, I have managed to squeeze in a set of bucket seats that came out of Subaru. I even have the sliding rails as well. I think there is more leg room in a viento than there is in my golf.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Yours does look a nice car Alfie.
Im 6'2" and weigh a poultry 16 stone, hence having to sell the Westfield and not as agile as I was eithe.

garage should be fime its an 8' wide door and the gates are 5.4m, but live in a fairly narrow lane, how is the turning circle?

Regards
Graham

SCAR - 26/1/13 at 08:56 AM

Loads of room for even the biggest driver and MX5 seats fit complete with runners without looking like they're perched on top of the car.
Your welcome to try ours for size (Mansfield Notts)

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the compliments.......I am 6.0ft and 15 stone and as I have arthritis I dont move too quick either,... that was one of the reasons I sold my Cobra,..........

as for the turning circle I must say its not that great,(cant remember the figures) but I have never had a problem manouvering it around, and of course you can always stick the clog down and you can provoke a bit of oversteer

NeilP - 26/1/13 at 08:39 PM

Welcome to the madhouse!

wilkingj - 27/1/13 at 12:52 PM

I let my Viento V8 go for £6k end of last year.
I could have got more if I had held out. But wanted to move on with my next project.

If you find a Viento (complete, finished and on the road) for £6k break their arm off!

I know someone who spent around £25k on a Viento. (Was very nce though), Most cost £8k - £10K min to build. Probably more these days.

If you get one thats on the road, however cheap, you can always add, modify, subtract, and generally get it how you want it over a period of time.
That way it helps you spread the cost and the workload. eg winter projects for the bigger jobs.
Its a good plan, unless you want it Perfect and NOW!!! But that could cost you £9k +++

Think it through before parting with the money.
Finally Viento's dont come up that often, as there arent a lot of them about.
They are not like hens teeth, but they arent that common either.

Have fun, and this is the forum to be on by a long way!

parkeg02 - 27/1/13 at 05:42 PM

Great advice, thanks Wilkingj.

It seems really strange as I have seen a few £6-6500 that look really good in the ad pictures, but that is, in the ad pics?
Suppose I really need to keep my eyes peeled and see what comes up, there's no rush I just want the right car.

I'll try and work out, how you put a wanted ad on the site and just wait.

Do you think that adding dates every time i review the site would help?
That way people will still know that I am looking.

Regards
Graham

alfiebeard - 27/1/13 at 09:41 PM

Hi what a shame you missed Wilkingj's V8 that was a bargain.
Anyway Just post a wanted add and review it every week,....... and if no one contacts you or posts a car, just repost or reply to your own post stating "BUMP" and members will see your original post every time you "BUMP".

Alfie

Hi Guys

Still looking around, cars seem a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

Have another question:
Can anyone give me the external dimensions of a Luegi Viento in metres preferably, just length and width?

Want to make sure I can get one in the garage.

Regards
Graham

Hi Graham, I am tinkering in the garage on mine for the first time in ages today, I just took a few rough measurements of mine but it doesnt have any panels on yet so these are just rough chassis dimensions but mine is approx 1670mm x 3400mm if thats any help, Might be a bit wider when done as the wheels I have on it at the minute are the wrong offset so it will grow a little at some point but not massivley and also once the nose cone is on it will be slighlty longer. Where abouts are you? There may be someone localish to you that can let you have a sit in theirs, If your anywhere near me your more than welcome to pop over for a cup of tea and a sit in!

Hi Dave

So sorry I haven't been in touch, been run off my feet lately.

The offer is great thanks, but I'm in the very south of the Kent Coast, but if you know anyone, it would be appreciated.

Graham

Keep an eye out for my old Viento. (pics in my Archive)
Q 251 RAR, Black and Polished Stainless sides.
It now lives near Maidstone / Canterbury area.

parkeg02 - 21/2/13 at 09:38 PM

Thanks Geoff

With Spring nearly here I'll keep an eye out.

Maybe contact a Maidstone and Canterbury Kit Car Club, if there is such a thing?

Hi Guys

Ive found this on ebay:

LUEGO VIENTO V8 3500 | eBay

Looks a bit tatty at first glances but unfortunately there are not many pictures. Does anyone know any history on it?

It seems very overpriced as well?

Grateful for any reply;'s

Regards
Graham

alfas - 2/3/13 at 02:11 PM

the advert says "THIS MUST BE THE CHEAPEST V8 SEVEN AROUND, £8500.00"

unfortunately not:

http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page/134793/2002-lotus-7/

and this car is advertized since around a year now...the lowest price is/was 5650,-

rusty nuts - 2/3/13 at 03:46 PM

But they are not Viento's!!

VIENTOV8 - 8/3/13 at 02:08 PM

don't think you can compare that formula 27 v8 with a viento, the viento is a much better looking car, i have looked at and owned lots of 7 type cars and the viento does it for me, that viento v8 on ebay would be a good buy at around £7,500 but you need to take a closer look at it, and take it out for a test drive.

kenton - 8/3/13 at 05:40 PM

Hi graham,
im in sussex near tunbridge wells, as part of SKCC (link to forum) http://www.southernkitcars.com/forum/index.php
we have regular runs out in kent, it would to have another viento in our ranks.
Mines having an engine upgrade at the moment due to a slipped liner. A v8 developments 4.6l stage 2 on its way

parkeg02 - 9/3/13 at 10:43 PM

Wow, thats sounds great.

I'll have a look at the site and hopefully see you in a few runs.
