LED Headlights and MOT
ianhurley20 - 20/1/23 at 11:59 AM

Hi - I realise that for an MOT replacement bulbs that are LED in headlamps are not allowed. I have fitted two headlamps that are fully LED with no bulbs and include the round halo type sidelights, apparently they are 'E' marked. Can these be used for MOT or will I have to put the originals back on?

Yes you can:

'If a complete headlamp unit has been replaced with a unit that was manufactured with HID or LED light sources, it must not be failed for ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’ but it must meet all other requirements detailed in section 4 of this manual specific to the type fitted at the time of test.'

Section 4 is the rest of the usual items (Aim, pattern, colour etc.

Does section 4 mention self levelling or headlamp washing?

Only if fitted.

one thing to note is these regs only apply to headlights,
you can retrofit leds in indicator, rear light, front fog etc.
though rear fog must be a 50w device with the correct markings...
