Big brake discs

Do we think that 326mm x 28mm vented discs are a bit to big?
What about 300mm x 25mm vented?
Both of these will be with 4 pots and 17" wheels

for a lightweight LSIS those brakes are too big. you will struggle getting sufficient heat into them to perform at their best

ive just got the front brakes for my car i got a set off willwood 4 pot got them from rally designs 298mm vented disc £398
all so as thay are adirect replacement for 2wd cosworth i can run a 15" rim should i choose to

on my indy i went from the vented discs from a 2 litre sierra

don to the solid discs from a 1.3 fiesta
and they are loads better more feel
get hot quicker so work earlier

not sure if that helps in any way but there you go

eccsmk, interested in doing similar, mainly an excersize to reduce weight
I assume you use the Fiesta calipers as well?
Bolt straight onto Sierra hub OK?

Repper, aren't you missing a lock nut on your top wishbone/joint?

i would rather have fantastic brakes than a powerfull engine

it has always been that way, from my first car through to my motorbike and my mountain bikes.

I want to stop without too much efort from the pedal, i can push about 250kg through my legs but i would like a bit less effort for long drives and i want something to fill my wheels

i'm running 330 mm discs with 6 pots, but i'm stopping a 7 with silly power!!!!!

Suppose depends what your fitting them to?!
Seems too big to me, also how heavy will that lot be? And do you really need 17" rims?

Why vented? They are designed to delay fading when braking big heavy cars down from big speeds repeatedly. For a 7 solid disks are just as good as you're only getting rid of half to a quarter of the energy (mv^2) and due to the aero wall 7's rarely make really big speeds (i.e. few go more than 120mph).

Disadvantages of big brakes are unsprung weight (and the 17" wheels aren't helping you there either).

Pedal feel/pressure is more down to getting master cylinder diameters, pad material and pedal pivot point right, though big diameter disks will give more potential braking it will be a lot more than a light 7 will ever be able to use effectively.

ye no lock nuts on the top wish bone its one off them little jobs i keep meening to get round to if you no what i meen
as for what iam intending to use well with the help off amate off mine ho is an engine builder buy trade iam intending to build up a 5.0 V8 from a TVR but on 2 sets off bike carbs with a dry sump kit to keep the weight as low as poss in the car.
