Stub Axle Splines

Hi all im having a little trouble finding something out.

I was wondering if stub axle splines are standardized in the same way as drive shaft splines???

Ie: For drive shafts a any 25 spline shaft will fit into any 25 spline CV there is no range of different diameters (at least acording to the man at GKN i spoke to the other day.)

So is this the same for Stub axles? reason i ask is i have a ford hub (27 spline) and i am wondering of it will fit a 27 spline stub from another manufacturer????

Only way to tell is if you have a stub axle and the other hub available to try (or measure).
Diameters could be different but with same spline count.
Also stub axle length and bearing distances could be different.

im not worried about the length or bearings to be honest, but i would thought there would be some sort of ISO or ANSI standard for the splines

This site seems to imply that it is only the spline count that changes as different diameters are not mentioned at all

It suggest the 'main' differences are spline count and length. It would be foolish to think that the chances of finding cross mating splines between manufacturers would be anything other than a lottery and down to pure luck if you found a match.

Most (not all) auto splines are SAE form. There's a metric and an imperial version, so go with care, as sometimes they have been mixed to suit the end product.
