Track Rod End Extentions
AntonUK - 14/9/13 at 03:42 PM

I'm looking for 1 of the following extensions for my Triumph Herald steering rack. The 1st would be preferred as this solves another issue I have. (first thread is the female end)

Option 1 : 1/2" x 20 UNF to M14

or

Option 2: 1/2" x 20 UNF to 1/2" x 20 UNF

Both need to be 1.5" long.

I have the option 2 currently but they are seized to the rod ends (which are in need of replacement)

Any ideas? Anyone?

Use threaded tubing and spherical bearings and make up track rod ends,

This kind of idea

To unseize from the track rod end heat the track rod end using strong local heat concentrated on the rod end.

The posting above is correct failing that it is a simple turning job. Unfortunately a bit far away. Bound to be someone local to you with a lathe.

Track rod end extensions that would suit your rack were used on the Lotus Elan +2 and are available from classic lotus parts suppliers.

Before posting this I had spent ages trying to split the extensions from the rod ends (removing the end from the rack was another mission) and have given up.

Posted this, had a cuppa and a think, then had another go.. a bit of grinding and a lot of mr blowlamp i now have some 1/2" to 12" extensions.

I would still like to find some 1/2" to M14 though is some were available? As I would then be able to remove the inserts in the sierra hub.

Interesting the Elan +2 used the similar setup :S
