MK1 Escort 2 Clock Dash Modification

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer. I am currently undergoing a Zetec conversion on my MK1 escort. It has a 2 clock dash in it. I am interested in swapping out the clocks so that I can add a rev counter, but want to keep a temp and fuel gauge. As the dash is so small I need to find something that I can exchange in place of the original clocks or find an alternative set of clocks that I can modify to fit. Many people have suggested there are alternatives but not said what. As I am fitting a Zetec and type nine gearbox it would be nice to go for an electronic setup. Advice/Ideas/suggestions all welcome and appreciated.

Many Thanks

Mike

P.S. I don't really want to fit six clock dash if I can avoid it.

A friend of mine decided to ditch his original clocks and fit an ETB digi-dash to his mk1 (x-flow). To do so he fitted a dash blank then mounted the digi-dash on it. Works really well, not the cheapest option or original, but looks really neat and is pretty cool Once wired up the dash has everything you would need!

Back in the late 70's a friend modified his Mk1 dash to take a speedo and rev counter, I'm sure he used either mk1 capri or escort parts, but spend ages cutting and modifying the plastic backing to take the rev counter in place of the fuel and temp gauges.

He then used four 2" dials as fouind in the Cortina 1600E / GT & Lotus in a custom made panel, which IIRC he fitted in place of the two centre face level air vents. An alternate for the 4 additional dials would be to use a Mk3 cortina GT centre console, which has those four gauges in a square arrangement, which could be modified to fit, if you can find one....

It was a long time ago and a lot of the parts he modified are probably expensive and highly sought after now.

Thanks for your ideas. Still trying to decide what is best.
