This is it, done.

Have changed a few things, now to get some steel ordered.

Hmmm, will watch with interest

Design finished ? Best you connect those front push rods to something then

I think he has it's a monoshock

Cheers!

I'm on about the other end

The pushrods connect with a 'rose' joint the the end of the suspension arm.

Yep, front suspension is still gonna fail as it is.

Tell me why?

No castor, or camber?
just my guess

As it was said in your other thread, the frame that the push rods and the shock are attached to will flex/twist.

designer - 8/10/12 at 09:07 PM

It's designed to flex and twist, as it acts like an anti-roll bar.

Dualist - 8/10/12 at 09:27 PM

Oh ok, I see it's gusseted, what is the material and grade.?
Have you run any Ansys or Cosmos sims on it, if so what are the results.? An anti roll bar will be high tensile but will flex, a welded structure will be stressed and prone to cracking if mig/tig welded unless stress relieved, are you gonna braze it.?

Sorry if I seem an a-hole, just in my experience it doesn't look like it's gonna work. More than happy for anyone to prove me wrong.

Really?

I never thought so. Surely any material will do as long as it is not deformed past its elastic or fatigue limit.

Cheers!

designer - 9/10/12 at 08:57 AM

Yes, that's right, anti roll bars can be made of 'normal' mild steel. It is when you start shrinking them to a piece 75mm long, like the racing guys, that you have to start using 'exotic' materials and heat treatments.

Don't get too influenced by what you read in technical articles, mild steel will be strong enough, and it will work.

The object of the design is 'simplicity'.

exactly what I was thinking of building. I half built a locost about seven years ago but personal circumstances decread it needed to be sold. such is life. I saw the reverse trike by malcom in trike mag recently and this has inspired me to delve back in to selfbuilding again.
my problems are what light weight uprights to use and what rack to use. I intend it to be very light weight, single seat, rear engine rear wheel drive.
I have been considering fiat cinquecento....has any one got any experience of this set up?

designer - 25/5/13 at 10:12 PM

Front uprights will be custom made, but very simple.

A large diameter, thick walled 'cup' with the spindle bolted through the end cap, the other end is left open. Thick walled tubes, top and bottom, provide the mounts for the ball joints.

thanks designer just trying to simplify the design and build process a bit by using off the shelf parts.im looking at all sorts of options, buggy uprights and brakes, centre mount racks etc. just seems theres so many options and huge variations in prices.
the reverse trike I saw was using morris minor uprights. very easy and cheap to obtain and very light weight when used on double wishbone set up. the guy had reduced the height by about 150 by the looks of it and inserted a spherical bearing on the top. it looks a well engineered solution.
