Protech Shocks Bulk Buy
Ben_Copeland - 12/1/11 at 07:10 AM

Is there any interest in a Protech Shock bulk buy? Basically shock length of your choice, within the scope of Locost/Haynes Roadster/mk/ etc Plus your choice in spring rates.

Potentially looking at £347 plus delivery which would be about £10 at a guess. Bloody vat increase has pushed them up a little.

Anyway, if your interested at this price let me know and we can see some quantities in the next day or so.

Looking to do this, this month and collection from margate or brandhatch area could also be possible.

I'm hoping this is as cheap as possible for the benefit of everyone.

Thanks

im very interested ben,

put me down as one for the time being, are you going to be approaching Matt @ Procomp for the bulk buy?

All the best

Alex

No it's direct from protech. They don't do massive discounts to angone. But I had considered talking to him about taking a batch to get them matched. Maybe if he reads this he can message me about it.

I dont know how the prices have changed but when i picked up a pair of rears 18months ago it appeared to make sense to buy then through procomp, with there valve spec, matched into pairs. I guess the rears the most critical for having the lighter valves as that where the cars lightest, the front is almost getting into normal car terratory...!!

Might be interested in a pair for the front, but it depending various things including where im next going to live so i'll say no for now.

They had a similar bulk buy on Haynes Forum and they bought 17 sets straight from protech. So I'll wait and see how much interest there is before changing plans.

Interested in a pair (that is just for the rear).
1.9inch i.d.
Although my dimensions might differ from the "standard".

It would come down to price though.

Matt

I could possibly be interested in a pair too, though it would only be fronts! I possibly wouldn't need springs either as I have springs from my old pair but they are both leaking but if I had to take springs that would be ok!

kipper - 12/1/11 at 12:53 PM

Damit ,I have just bought a pair for the STM
Denis.

Ben_Copeland - 12/1/11 at 04:12 PM

I'll ask about pairs of.

procomp - 12/1/11 at 04:40 PM

Hi

Sorry there is no way we can supply a baulk deal.
The reason is that we do not supply the standard dampers as such. We supply dampers that are built to our specification by Protech inc custom body and rod lengths to ensure that the correct amount of bump and droop travel is available and they are then custom finished by ourselves with modifications and valving to suit the individual application including an oil that is also to our specification supplied by Fuchs/Silkolene. Then dyno run and tested and accurately balanced into pairs. For this as a finished item we charge £89.50 Ea for single adjustable.

What we supply is more suited to the people who are taking the handling of their car a bit more seriously.

Cheers Matt

These shocks are fine for the road and track days. If people want to buy race car parts then please see matt because he knows his stuff and can supply you with what you need.

Anyway so is anyone (apart from the couple of people that replied) really interested in a bulk buy or shall I give up now?

SALAD - 12/1/11 at 05:39 PM

I'd be interested......not sure what size and rates I need at present though!
Will try and find some money now........

Ben_Copeland - 12/1/11 at 05:43 PM

I can probably find out for you. Which gts chassis have you got ?

SALAD - 12/1/11 at 05:49 PM

Panther as far as I can remember!

According to the GTS site:
"Panther spec comes as 12" shocks all round, with 275 lb/in front springs and 175 lb/in rear springs.

Locost spec comes as 12" fronts, with 275 lb/in springs, and 13" rear shocks with 175 lb/in springs".

I should go and measure the lengths really........hang on, I will do.................back in a mo..........

SALAD - 12/1/11 at 05:53 PM

Yep 12" all round.
Do those suggested spring rates sound OK?

Ben_Copeland - 12/1/11 at 06:18 PM

Yeah should be ok

paulf - 12/1/11 at 10:05 PM

They sound a bit stiff to me , i had 275 front and 180 rear and changed to 250 and 160 but still feel they are a bit stiff for road use , my fronts area little more vertical than book as i mounted the top mounts on the side of the chassis rail rather than underneath.
I could be interested in a pair for the front of the car as i have Avos that are going rusty now.
