English Axle Diff 3.89
I purchased this diff with my car but have never used it. It has a dent at one of the threads on the prop flange but the threads (while elongated on one side) seem to take a bolt fine, see pictures. I want what I paid for it, £250.
Collection from Redditch, Worcestershire.

You may want to get another opinion but that diff looks pretty mullered
If it is as I have said you wouldn't want to receive that in the post.
It looks as though the pinion gear has been running on the outer part of the crownwheel.
Also there appears to be a lot of chipped teeth which with the oil have been circulating and
Causing damage.
That's a good picture and maybe it's just old lubricant or storage grease.
Many apologies if that's the case

I've only just managed to get around to looking at this but I can't see any chips or damage to the teeth.

I'm no expert on diffs but it looks decent to me, I don't know what the backlash spec is but I'm happy to check with an indicator, it may need a shim (£9) if it is off.

Here is another picture of the teeth:

It needs a clean, perhaps the bits you thought were teeth are just bits of dust from storage. I have no interest in selling something that isn't right so I'm happy to scrap it if there is a problem but I don't see it. Replacement pinion flanges are available for ~£60 (but I don't think it's necessary), shims (if needed) for £9.

I would appreciate your response.

The Crown wheel faces are badly pitted with rust & it looks to have been meshing badly with the pinion, track marks on each face in the inner circumference

And the input flange is for the Bin... Steal Noses and Open differentials are worth very little & that is all that is salvageable
