beautiful car.

it was watching Boyd on the telly that made me want to build cars myself. top bloke but i would have hated to have worked for him.
wouldn't mind having half his vision or skill though.

big_wasa - 2/1/10 at 03:46 PM

I would have loved the chance to have worked for him

funnily enough i have to disagree with you,i watched the series on quest and cant see the point of a lot of his cars, they seem to make their own problems and i have seen some bodges going on,as for working for him and the foreman, never seen such poor management skills in my life.
imho of course

speedyxjs - 2/1/10 at 04:11 PM

I've tried to watch it and can't for just this reason. Drama queens the lot of them and the cars are fillered up to the hilt.I wouldn't like to try to change a wheel on that thing, it's an ornament.

Snuggs - 2/1/10 at 06:01 PM

Beautifully engineered but that is seriously fugly

jacko - 2/1/10 at 07:49 PM

What happend to Boyd Coddington's firm
did it close down?

johnston - 2/1/10 at 08:15 PM

He had to sell bits like the wheel end due to bad business deals and then the govt took him to court over the legalities of the cars.

He was registering them as historic vehicles to avoid the emissions and such. But powers at be decided as they had all new parts the weren't historic cars. So he got fined .

Once he died I think they just closed shop!

As for the show always reckoned it was all staged. Sometimes you would see a car lying in the corner of the shop. Only for a few episodes later it to be a rushed job!

All beautiful, but not very practical cars.
Boyd died in 2008. Its all on the wiki site.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyd_Coddington

also bits about the business and using old cars and minaly new parts to get round the States emission and Tax situation.

Its a shame he is dead, he certainly designed and built beautiful cars.

I have watched the series, and the management of the teams was questionable with rediculous timescales etc.
Whilst it must have been interesting to work there, I certainly wouldnt have.

Also I suspect much of it was staged to make the TV programme, or it would have been boring TV.

Same as I have watched a Car is Born, and a 4x4 is Born.
They built a Westfield, and made it sound so easy, and also missed out huge chunks.. ie all done for making a TV programme that was for the masses who knew very little about the subject at hand.

Still TV is like newspapers..... They Dont let the Truth get in the way of a good story!

RK - 3/1/10 at 01:52 AM

hey, if the TV people paid me, I'd build cars that look like absolute crap too! Not my style, but they were doing things with the type of parts that we have here in North America, just on a very big, odd scale!

My cousin and her husband have a fully restored 69 Camaro with 500 HP (yes), and although I admire their show car buddies, and their work, I feel nothing for the cars.

woodster - 4/1/10 at 03:51 PM

beautiful ....... only 2 bids at $1.2mill ..... blinkin credit crunch

carpmart - 4/1/10 at 04:26 PM

AFAIA I believe that his two ex-wives are running the show along with Dick-Head Dwane. I have seen the other guy (the one who had his jaw smashed to pieces) on Wrecks To Riches a few times - he was still making wheel rims.

I was never too fond of the show; as somebody has already said, there was quite a lot of show-boating. If the cameras where not there half of it would not happen.
This is the same reason why I stopped watching American Chopper. The Teutuls - such a disarranged family; they are not what one would term as a Normal Family.

mistergrumpy - 28/1/10 at 04:05 PM

Nah as I heard Jo Coddington was running the show and she wasn't paying contractors and the whole thing went into administration except the wheel shop.
I'm not sure if that's still going under a different name now.
Duane Mayers left and has his own hotrod shop. You can find him on Twitter.
Charlie, Mike and BlueBear went to work for Chip Foose but now Charlie seems to drift a little between shops.
Roy died from cancer a week after his wife died and I think Lee, his protege inherited his tools. I would have liked to know where Lee went he was a funny fella.
I would have loved to have had the chance to work there too but the staff and time management aspect was pretty rubbish.

That'll be mike. he was moonlighting for Foose while he was at Codingtons and got caught out. Dwane and Codington were IMHO cocks. The man management style sucked with a " we are bigger than you and if you don't want to work here someone else does "attitude. They could not, or would not, realise that any of the skilled people they had could go and work elsewhere no problem.
And yes how many kilos of filler must they have put into some of those car bodies??

DarrenW - 28/1/10 at 09:48 PM

Do you think that car would look OK with a set of 18's on it? Looks strange without wheels.
