Oyster (beading) Pliers from B&Q
wilkingj - 22/6/09 at 11:52 AM

I stopped at Peterborough B&Q on the way back from Newark, and got a pair of these Plumbeasy Oyster Pliers.
They have been out of stock in Cambridge and St Neots for ages. only got them 30+ miles away
Anyway... I had a play down the shed last night... They make a nice dimple in ally tube Ally TV pole is thicker than the stuff they use for water pipes.

It even worked, although not as well on the stainless 38mm pipe offcuts I got from Ro**in H**d at Newark.
I was surprised at that.

I still think a heavy set of pliers and a 2mm Ball bearing welded to one side and a hole in the other would work as well.

Link to U-Tube Video of the Pliers

Just thought I would let you know what I thought of them.

EDIT: Thanks and Acknowlegements to Mango for the Vid.

I have some of them. They are very good for that.

That vid is mango's.

I got a couple of pairs of these from B&Q in Ipswich to do my coolant pipes with. I modified one as per Mango's instructions to form a bead rather than a dimple and I haven't had any problems with hoses blowing off so far (touch wood)!

Thanks Mango!

Ive been to 3 B+Q`s with no luck. The assistants looked totally bemused.
Maybe they sell some in the L.B shop?

Search B&Q on line and see where they have stock (do a stock check). There was nothing for 30 miles in all directions from Cambridge.
Got them in Peterborough on the way home from Newark.

Can you link to the instructions please? did a search, but no luck

The instructions are just to grind a slot to extend the hole in the pliers.
It's mentioned in the video.
