The two recent threads covering bending steel box section into a curve and folding a safe edge indicate interest among a number of members in metal shaping. This has set me thinking about what more complicated components are well within our range without the need of specialist skills or equipment.

Power bulges and air scoops very often come up on the Forum and whilst such items are available to buy I believe it is far more satisfying not only to make your own but to end up with one that is tailored to your exact requirements.

I believe it is well within the capabilities of all of us to make a power bulge using just a piece of plywood a hammer and a dolly.

i think you'd be better using a piece of metal rather than a piece of plywood , but metal shaping's definitely rewarding.

Metal shapings rewarding when it goes to plan,having watched dad beat out my side vents,scuttle and bonnet to say the air was blue is an understatement,can't wait til I bend it and have to ask him to do it all again.....

I also would be interested, as i have buggered my fiberglass one that fits my bonnet

My idea, was to make a mould of my fiberglass one, but using concrete, (yes concrete)
so i have a male and female mould, then stick a piece of alui, between them, and lower my tin top (mondeo tdci, and very heavy!!) untill the male fits the female

I presume it wont come out "perfect" but would be a start, to do some fettling

Or gentle hammering !!

Sorry to have kept you waiting and am really glad some of you are interested. I've only just got back off holiday but I'll try to make a start in the next day or two and see if it looks promising.

this almost sounds like a "how to" thread thats going to be very popular
