RaceChrono/ Tablet help
theprisioner - 20/10/14 at 09:25 AM

I have been using RaceChrono on my Android phone over the summer to keep track of my lap times. I use it in conjunction with a 10Hz Bluetooth GPS. I think this app is the dogs b......s. The results can be seen at:http://gpsandkitcars.blogspot.co.uk/

The designers of this excellent application on my mobile have no intention to support a PC application. There is an old PC application but I cannot get it to work.

I need to view the files on a larger screen.

It has been suggested that I might get it to work on a cheap 10" Android Tablet. As the demo version of this application is free could someone out there download the app on an Android tablet and let me know the issues if any? I may invest in such a thing if successful!

Hi
I was going to do the exact same.
I use the Racechrono Pro on my Samsung S2 phone I have used the internal GPS not the best but it does work.

Stiched a video to it and its Brilliant.

I cannot see why it will not work on a Android Tablet
I was looking at getting a Asus MeMo Pad 7 currently 99.99 at Currys.

I will watch this post with interest.

Cheers

My fear is although the Operating System is Android (or Googles version of Lynux perhaps) the rsources in a Tablet may be different. Things like GPS and Gforce sensors and so may throw up an error even although all we want to do is view the files. I don't want another piece of useless electronic junk lying about if it is not going to do the job intended. Perhaps some computer scientists on the forum will contribute to this thread. I will search the FAQ on RaceChrono and post something there perhaps.

You are correct that the hardware will be different, however the differences in hardware are abstracted behind software interfaces. This enables the same application to run on devices with very different hardware for example different phones. The main thing that you will be testing by running on a tablet is that there are suitable interface layouts for the bigger screen.

Plenty of cheap tablets on eBay with pathetic battery life. Maybe one of them wired in to the power would work OK?

I have just found a wee gem on the RaceChrono forum it is covered in the thread :

There is an Android emulator that runs on PC and Mac called Bluestacks. I have downloaded it and the app store has installed the RaceChrono and it certainly runs on my machine. Not tried importing my sessions yet but this could be an answer.

Update: I have now installed my sessions and it works great just like the phone with a larger screen.

Just bought a ASUS MeMo 7" Android Tablet £79 from Currys and installed Racechrono Pro and works fine.
Well chuffed.

That's good to know as Bluestacks has a bug that refuses to import all my resumed sessions grr.......
