Homemade Trigger Wheel.
Angel Acevedo - 22/1/17 at 04:29 PM

Hi all.
IŽve been searching-reading for the last hour-and-a-half looking for a homemade trigger wheel.
IŽm sure I saw someone that did it with a bench drill only, but canŽt find it.
Any pointers?
In case not, IŽll dive in and start tinkering.
Thanks in advance.

Not made one myself, however you can print off templates to cut your own.

If I was to do one using megasquirt where you can be flexible with the number of teeth make a 12-1 tooth one rather than 36-1

No reason not to make one easily enough with a pillar drill, just mark out then drill the centre hole an set a pivot the correct radius away and drill and file the teeth spinning it on the pivot to keep everything nice and accurate.

You could of course get carried away and make a deviding head from some old gears.

Made a few....the thickness of the tooth needs to be at least the same thickness as the crank sensor tip and the gap between the teeth also needs to be wider than the tip. Those factors dictate the minimum diameter, so for example a 60-2 wheel by default ends up a reasonable size (if that's important).

A stand drill and lathe, or milling machine with an indexing table or a cnc off course are all ways to make a trigger wheel. It's not magic or witch craft

Tip doesn't necessarily mean the plastic part outer diameter, by the way.

Thanks.
IŽll give it a shot with pillar drill.
Will post results when done.
