making scales to measure 1 or 2 g
02GF74 - 1/12/06 at 02:16 PM

I need to make a small scales to set up tracking wieght of a cartridge fitted to a tone arm.

thinking of a balance type thing, a length of small brass tube pivoting with a wieght that slides along it; using the ratio of arm lengths would be give me an idea of wieght .... but I need to have an item of know weight as the sliding weight.

Anyon able to weigh a 5 p piece accurately?

just go to the market and the local hippy stall has digital scales that do that sort of thing, not sure what they use them for though

well I'd suggest you take the scales back and ask for your money back.

If you measured say 10 of them and took average, you may get closer but as it is your 23 % out

see here for 5 p coin

Am i right in thinking a milligram = 1000th of a gram.

400 g = 1lb

400,000 mg in a lb

if 5p = 4milligrams, then 100,000 5p =1lb

dont think so

Maybe , 4g there fore 100 5ps = 1lb

Ahh thats more like it

I make it 137 but I'm cheating by weighing some out of my piggy bank. Nuts to theory and maths. Suck it and see!

Them scales are used by guys making biodiesel to weigh out Sodium Hydroxide. Is it a Locost tonearm?

Please Note........Bollocks!

quite the opposite - it is a Zeta; but there are no weight markings on the counter balance so it is guess works as for tracking, unless you have a smll balance that is

How about set it to balance equal, then rest a 5p on the cart? Unless its a fancy shaped one.

Maybe instead of 5 milligrams the scale read 5 milli-kilograms!

that is the smart way of doing it except it is on the other end , and it would be a 2 1/2 p coin for a tracking weight of about 1.5 g.

interestingly (or maybe not!) most of our coin of the realm is now worth more as scrap than coin!!!

good ol' china eh!

Off to the bank!

And then to the scrap merchants!
