a mystery. i had the same thing, couldn't find any virus or spyware, then after about 2 weeks or so, it suddenly started acting as normal. never did find out what happened

Sounds like you have something nasty, probably a Browser Helper Object (BHO).

Download Hijack This!, do a scan and see if there are any suspicious BHO's listed.

if you look in C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc
there will be a file named hosts.
double click and windows will ask what you want to open it with, choose notepad.
The only thing that has to be in there is the following line:

127.0.0.1 localhost

A similar file lmhosts.sam should be empty in most cases.

Spyware etc often change these files to point you to their own search engines etc.

Create a copy of the files before changing them.
Most likely though is that there is something on your system (virus, spyware etc) changing these files so best to use the software mentioned earlier to get rid of them.

Spybot search and destroy is good
here

Hijack this creates a log file which you can post here or elsewhere for someone to look at and advise you.

I've never tried this site http://www.hijackthis.de/ but it appears to check your hijack this log automagically.

AVG free has always kept me safe by blocking suspect url's.
AVG Free

hope this is helpful!

I've just tried it and it's really cool.
I'm impressed

Hijackthis is a good prog to check for this sort of thing.

Malwarebytes anti-malware is also very good and in most cases can kill whatever you've got.
