Mesh Material

Hi, I want to poke my tailpipe (Oo err missus) through a rear grill in the clamshell of my Sylva J15.
I want a retro look so would like a stainless mesh which I will spray body colour.
I've enquired to a couple of stainless mesh suppliers and it seems it's only woven so any holes may fray.
Has anyone got any clever techniques for doing this?
Cheers, Chris

I got some mesh for my front grill from halfords of all places its aluminum black and can be cut and painted with no bother.

have a look in a local junk shop / antiques emporium or possibly charity shop, and see if they have any fireguards. and cut the mesh from that

These guys do a reasonably wide range of perforated metal and welded mesh; may be something suitable on their site?
