Emerald ECU-Ignition Question
liam.mccaffrey - 3/1/18 at 09:14 AM

I am about install my Emerald K6 into my tintop daily Volvo 240 in preparation for an engine swap.
Not having messed with ECU control much in the past I thought I'd ask.....

My question is about how the the ECU controls ignition timing when it uses the distributor as an input trigger as in the diagram below.
Would this setup still require separate coil pack to distribute the sparks or would the dizzy still distribute the sparks. I'm a little confused as the diagram in ECU manual for a crank position sensor clearly shows a coil pack for wasted spark ignition.

Still so much reading to do!!

iirc it uses the distributor to give the spark but you can use a coil pack if you want. It looks like the ecu is wired to control the Lumenition pack in the distributor.
Why not contact Emerald for advice, my experience is that they are very happy to help.

My K6 runs a ford coil pack off a 36:1 trigger wheel

Spoke with Dave Walker at length earlier and he said forget the distributor and use a coil pack as its soooooo much easier!
Sounds like a plan. He was really really helpful.
