Savage hazard switch as a warning light
DarrenW - 26/8/08 at 09:38 AM

Ive just been sent a U2U asking how i wired up my savage hazard switch so that the light flashes as a warning light when hazards are on. I cant remember how i did it. Can anyone remember what the circuit is and what type of diode is needed?

I seem to recall you take a flashing feed from an indicator back to the light but need the diode in place so the light doesnt flash just when using the indicators as normal.

Cheers,
Darren.

This is the diagram I used which works OK.

On the diagram, the cable off to the left indicator should read solid orange (not blue) but that is specific to my donor loom anyway.

Looks the same as the one above to me.

The '+' on the savage switch is for the LED so it is working the opther way round to you are thinking. The power is supplied via the flasher so the indicator (and the LED on the savage switch) will flash when hazards switched. Oterh than that indicators work as normal.

Obviously, you will also need to wire the indicator lamp on your dash to it as well.

The only problem I had is that the fasher requires a current drain to work so when I tested it with LED's it did nothing. Switch to lamps for a test and it all worked fine.

Hope this helps.
Liam

No it wasn't.
It was edited to include the diode in my drawing, which you made a reference to in your post...

I wish i'd seen all these diagrams before, however i have managed to do this except for the diode.
What sort of diode do i need???
Thanks

Hi Chris,

Pleased youve seen the post. I couldnt find my diagram so decided to ask for help.

Ref diode - im an electronics numpty but if i was looking for one id start with some of my fuzzy logic by thinking 3 indicator bulbs per side at 5W each - 15Watts total. As P=I x V and V is 12, i guess you need one capable of carrying 1Amp minimum plus a bit to cope with the starting load of the bulbs at each flash. Does this logic sound correct?

savage switch is 2 position?

what are the contacts when open? and when closed?

let's call contacts: top 1 2 3
and bottom 3 2 1

Check out THIS thread there is a diagram half way down of the savage switch layout.
And i got my diodes today too, will let you know the spec later and if they work! fingers crossed!!

I know this is a old post but, im just wiring my savages up, does the hazard switch have to flash when in use for the sva or are the standard green indicator dash warning bulbs ok,
