OT Wiring Advice....Again!
Ian Pearson - 24/1/10 at 05:45 PM

Hi All,
Yet another dumb non car related question!!
I have a 1/3 hp electric motor that can be wired for either 110v or 240v. The wiring instructions are as follows:

LOW VOLTAGE
BLU__L1
BRN__ORG
WHT__YEL__L2

HIGH VOLTAGE
BLU__L1
BRN__INSUL
ORG__WHT
YEL__L2

I have wired the Orange and White wires together as per diagram, and presumed that the Blue (L1) and Yellow (L2) would be live and neutral. I had also presumed that the brown would be earthed, but the diagram suggests it should be insulated while the label on the motor says it must be earthed. Any help would be much appreciated.
The wiring diagram can be found here: WIRING
Regards,
Ian.

If the case of the motor is metal and it is not double insulated then it will need to be earthed yes. In fact it should have already been if it was in use.

Live to Blue
connect orange and white together
insulate brown (do not connect brown to earth!)
neutral to Yellow
