Bike insurance
flak monkey - 11/7/10 at 02:03 PM

I know there are a few bikers on here, so who is the best for insurance?

Only looking for cover for a 125, so nothing too special

Thanks

carol nash were always good when i was into bikes, my last bike was a zx7r and they always gave the best price at renewal

bennetts were always close too on price

who ever you go with a 125 will not brake the bank

As above just this year Bennetts were cheaper than Nash's a whole £75

I've always used Carole Nash, just renewed and Swinton came up cheapest, £180 against Nash's 260, thats an R1 F/C with Euro breakdown and legal.

Passed my bike test 3 weeks ago Carol Nash not only the cheapest but are offering free national and european brake down cover at the moment , (That was for a Honda VFR )

Carol Nash are that good with me I don't even bother ringing round anymore. Been with them for years.

Horses for courses I guess.
Carol Nash are always about twice the price for me. eBike were good on my first year but rubbish from then on. MSM were good for a while but now Devitts are the best price on a Speed Triple.

I was of the same opinion until 3 weeks ago. Sold my bike 3 weeks after renewing insurance, so called to cancel. No problem sir we will refund you, total refund after charges £30 so £100 loss to insure for 3 weeks. Tried to move insurance to my dads bike, sorry sir you must be registered keeper, reregistered Dads bike in my name, sorry sir your policy was for bikes over 10 years old. Not great service in my opinion.

Now insured with Bennetts

Motorcycle direct for me
got a 2 bike policy with them and was not a drama when I wanted to change one of the bikes for another (rather than add a third!)

always spoke to someone with half a brain when I needed to , insurance docs emailed whithin seconds of taking out a policy

went from CG125 and pretty much zero experience and not yet racked up a years no claims to a GPZ500 (restriceted to 33 hp), thought they would want shed loads of money for the priveledge ....it only cost me £25 which was admin fee only!

all in for 2 bikes (GPZ500s and CJ360) both fully comp with breakdown and puncture cover and legal costs me about £160 which I thought was a bargain

Not had to claim or use their breakdown service yet, which I guess is when you find out how good they /really/ are or not

Not associated with them, just a happy punter and I do have a couple of cards with discount vouchers here somewhere if you did want to use them (IIRC £10 off your policy..dont think I get anything from the deal though)

Regards
Rob

Edited to add I do have my old CG125 for sale at the mo!

same here. ebike were oodles cheaper* (paper work is from Adrian Flux so maybe worth contactng them too?)

* compare like with like - the ebike comes out cheaper as there are lots of exclusions.

flak monkey - 12/7/10 at 07:06 AM

Carole Nash quoted £163 TP only £0 excess.

Bennetts are £115 TP only and £0 excess

Devitts are £144 TP only with £0 excess

eBike is £167 TP only with £0 excess

Will try a few others later

eBike phoned me but couldnt beat bennets price, so went with them

Lets just hope the CBT goes OK and I can actualy pick the new bike up!

robocog - 12/7/10 at 05:52 PM

Out of interest what did Motorcycle Direct quote you David?

enjoy the CBT :-)

I was grinning like a loon for weeks after mine and couldn't wait to get my own 125 to pootle round on

Just remeber to relax and enjoy it - as its not a test but training

Get a big tin of ACF50 and loctite if you are going chinese ;-)

Once your well and truly hooked ...
I may have a set of the DSA disks that you can have (for your Theory test and the hazard perception test)
They certainly helped me get through the tests that otherwise would have panicked me had I not used them

Let us know how you get on :-)
