Payload weight for a 3.5T Luton Van
carpmart - 21/12/10 at 11:53 AM

Tapping into the unique knowledge pool available on LCB and without going to a weigh-bridge, can anyone tell me the ULW of a Merc Sprinter MWB van running with a Alloy Bodies Luton body, the ply wall variety and not fiberglass walled one!

Even an educated guess would be useful as I'm keen to know my approximate payload availability.

Thanks in advance!

Our Iveco flatbed lorry has an unladen weight of 2.4T and that only has a cab and an alloy frame, wooden bed and alloy sides.

your payload will be in the region of 1000 to 1200kg. though a weigh bridge will give you an exact amount if you think you are close to the limit.

have a look for a council bridge, our local one is only a few quid to use.

my mwb sprinter weighs approx 2000kgs empty with me, from weight bridge figures. Soyour max payload is 1400 at best, 1000 is a safe guess.

No *massive* need to worry though unless you have 9 points on your license already, ive seen my van 800kgs over its limit with no ill effects. Its not mechanical failure thats the problem, assuming you can drive round the limitations (ie, dreadful handling and braking) then you just need to not get pulled.
