if you could buy any car in f/glass
mad-butcher - 4/4/11 at 08:42 AM

discussing this at work last night, if you could buy a fibreglass bodyshell of any car you liked, ( drawback is you'd have to make your own chassis ) what would it be.
I'd have a Metro 6r4 with a busa

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mr Whippy - 4/4/11 at 09:09 AM

why are you going to make me one...

nick205 - 4/4/11 at 09:25 AM

205 T16 for me please.

AWD of course and ideally I'd like one of those V8 Hayabusa based motors, mid mounted with twin turbochargers

alistairolsen - 4/4/11 at 10:41 AM

Bubble arched mk1 escort, done like the new Red Victor with the bumpers and all the detail moulded into the shell, done in carbon please.

Triton - 4/4/11 at 12:30 PM

Almost anything is possible as long as you have something to mould in the first place, beware copying though as that just aint cricket especially if it's something current.

I love the fact folk want a 'glass escort now the kit car industry has made them so damn expensive to buy even if you could find one... Ironic really using a Locost as a donor to make an Escort...wonder how long it will be before we have a 'glass RS500 Sierra based on an Indy, Mac1 etc...

OOOOOOO the BMW gets my vote so far

whitestu - 4/4/11 at 03:29 PM

One of these please, with a supercharged 33 1.7 16v motor - I'd want a full glassfibre monocoque though.

For most cars a fibreglass version would be seen as a cheap alternative, however a fibreglass trabant would be a significant upgrade. Or after watching TG last night anything made by Lancia!

mad-butcher - 4/4/11 at 03:41 PM

Sure I remember seeing an rs500 bodyshell kit at Stafford or was it Donnington many years ago, Forgotten about the much loved Escort, Always loved the 6r4 but my god the T16 with that engine combination. Some very interesting choices so far

Or, maybe a Reliant Scimitar with a 6 pot BMW diesel?

Triton - 4/4/11 at 04:23 PM

Hillman Imp full 'glass monoque with a screaming bike motor hiding in the back instead of imp motor would be natty

You're in luck!

Mini based Stimson minibug kitcar & fibreglass moulds on eBay (end time 12-Apr-11 16:48:30 BST)

Ninehigh - 4/4/11 at 05:33 PM

Couldn't say no to any choice here really, even the Trabant would be cool in a "not really" kind of way

With any motorbike 400/600cc lump to replace its own?

That R5 looks awesome! Great idea.

I would do either a Escort Cosworth or an Evo 6......

Body would be a mixture of glass and carbon

running twin engines, one in the front and one in the back!

Ditto - I think that might well have to be my 2nd choice after the T16 above

morcus - 5/4/11 at 10:51 PM

Either a Facel Vega Excellence or a Citreon SM.

How difficult would it be to build a fibre Glass replica of something from scratch?
