Hi Guys,

This is way off topic but people on here are smarter than anywhere else when it comes to car stuff!!

I've got a 2003 bmw e46 that was pre wired for a 6 disc cd changer by the factory but they only installed a standard cassette tape. I've currently replaced the cassette tape for an aftermarket head unit but I don't like the aftermarket look. I also have a 6 disc clarion cd changer that I bought on Ebay years ago. What I'd like to do is 'butcher' the clarion disc changer and basically wire the clarion disc changer to my bmw head unit. Is this even possible? I know when fitting an aftermarket head unit into a car it's possible to butcher the wiring so that it works perfectly but this is probably completely different.

Anyway I thought I'd ask and see if anyone can help.

Oh and my car is only the poncy 4 cycl petrol so no comments about turning off the radio and listening to the music of the engine 'cause there's really not much to listen to!!

What make is the original BMW head unit? Probably not Clarion, more likely Grundig or Blaupunkt I'd expect in which case it won't want to talk to the Clarion changer. Best bet would be to determine the make/model of the head unit and then look for a compatible changer from the same manufacturer (probably not a current model so eBay might be your best bet?). Other option would be some sort of iPod interface if the head unit has a line in feature.
