Vauxhall Adam / Corsa steering recall
DW100 - 30/9/14 at 12:53 PM

Its not just locosters that have issues with the quality of steering components.

Adam /Corsa registered since May 2014

From Vauxhall:

We have just sent out a press release confirming that the above issue affects approximately 20,000 vehicles in operation arising from an issue with the steering intermediate shaft which may not have been manufactured by the supplier in accordance with our specification.

A possible consequence is that the intermediate shaft may break which would lead to loss of steering control. The company is not aware of any accidents or injury related to this condition.

It was interesting listening to a radio phone in at weekend. People had had letters from Vauxhall saying "Don't drive your car" but when they called the dealers they were told "We can't fit it in untill mid-October but it'll be fine to continue using"

It's apparently a fault shaft that they think might break but e've had a run of 3-4 year old Corsa's (so earlier than the recall) fail MOT on loose steering links. All were the clamp bolt loose between the upper column and intermediate link. 2 had even been back to dealers concerned about the loose feeling and been told it's normal... 1/2" free play... normal!

Sounds about right for a Vauxhall, my old Nova steering wheel could turn at least 90 degrees either way before the road wheels responded...
