Another sad day for British Motor Racing...RIP Justin Wilson
tims31 - 25/8/15 at 07:06 AM

Have just seen that Justin Wilson has sadly passed away after injuries suffered in the Indycar race on Sunday night. It looks like he hit a piece of debris from another car which hit him on the head much like the Massa and Henry Surtees accidents.

Sad news RIP Justin

Dreadful news, had seen he was in a coma & feared the worst .......

Definitely makes you wonder if it makes more sense to have a cockpit hood, rather than open. As speeds go up and safety features are designed to fracture and come off in an accident, surely it makes sense to protect the driver more? I know it makes egress harder in a fire situation, especially overturned though.

This is very sad.

But maybe, the sport needs to look at the safety. I realise all motor sport is dangerous, but Indy car does seem to be more dangerous than, say, F1. Crashes and car failures do seem more frequent. And the accidents always seem to be higher energy (Dario francitti, dan wheldon etc)

I am not claiming to know the answer, it's just how I see it.

RIP Justin
