Clamps and road tax and removing the former
NigeEss - 21/2/18 at 03:31 PM

I live on a very quit street and my BMW has been on the road untaxed for a few months. Ok, I'm
in the wrong. This morning it got clamped, company that does this is NCP.

So, I have paid my fine and carefully removed the clamp, videoing to prove no damage done, and
moved car into the garage. I can easily put it back on.

Am I within my rights to charge them to come on my property to recover their clamp ?

Or have I made a major error !

Yes, you've essentially committed a criminal offence as this would be an authorised DVLA clamp for being untaxed.

Pay the fine, replace the clamp and Tax the car.

You could always wind them up - leave the car in the garage, and replace the clamp...
... let them work out how you got the car in there!

Probably best you don't say how on here, but it seems a pretty lame clamp to me if it can be taken off without damaging it!

Young lad turned up, saw car gone and went to drive off. I waved him back and asked
if he wanted the clamp "If you still have it, most who remove it chuck them away, and they
don't cost much anyway"
Wasn't bothered at all that I'd taken it off.

So a bit of an anticlimax.

How many warning letters have you had?

They have been in my town clamping too, seen atleast 5 vehicles clamped.

Curious to how long they hadn't had any tax I recorded ones plate and checked once home

No tax since August 2017 and no MOT since November, parked on a main road, assholes!

Would it be OK parked on a main road if it was taxed and MOT'd?
Would he still be an asshole if he was parked on a side street without tax and MOT?

Which bit is it that is upsetting you?

Can park where they want when it's road legal!

What's your point?

Just curious why you would be so upset that you called a stranger an asshole?

Hey-ho - must happen all the time for them then!

I'd have thought they'd get better clamps, particularly if they're clamping on behalf of the DVLA/VOSA.

Sorry I thought from your original post it was merely being stored at the roadside, if it was being used then I agree entirely.

Well I haven't actually seen it used, but if it had been parked up since the tax/MOT ran out the brake disc's would be covered in surface rust, and the car would be surrounded by stuff the road sweeper couldn't get up,which it wasn't

That's how mine was, pretty obvious it wasn't being used.
