Do you name your car??? what name and why?
FFTS - 28/4/10 at 05:30 PM

Each kit car I've had has been given a name.
1- so I can refer back to past owned cars to friends and family and they know which i mean. and 2) My little girl loves them having names.

What is yours called and where did you come to choose the name?

My new one is called R1Becca get it hahaha.
Past ones

Lola (Freestyle buggy) dity little buggy
The beast (tiger with a tiger face custom paint job)
Mindy M(K)indy

dave1888 - 28/4/10 at 05:32 PM

B45tard, i dont think i have to explain

StevieB - 28/4/10 at 05:34 PM

Hmmmmm

My wife chose Mindy too, though she didn't immediately see the synergy in Mk INDY (she's a bit slow like that sometimes...)

mangogrooveworkshop - 28/4/10 at 05:36 PM

my golf is called pigs......cause they always look at it......
smart got called smartie
and the 7 is the yellow banana according to my wife..... I think peril would be nearer the mark...

Ivan - 28/4/10 at 05:39 PM

Nope - never my kit cars - but the Escort in my avatar was Jeremiah becaus it was a Bullfrog and was a good friend of mine.

Coopz - 28/4/10 at 05:47 PM

Every name under the sun when having a bad day in the garage. But will most probably namer her (has to be a she) when I drive her for the first time.

nitram38 - 28/4/10 at 05:53 PM

MotaLeira, reverse the spelling.
Done after the slating I got from their Club forums.

dhutch - 28/4/10 at 05:53 PM

Our cars all have names that we call them, but the not original.

Currently we have

'the audi' (dad a4)
'the big red bus' (mums 806)
'the blue 306' (my 306)
'the red 306' (sisters)
'the feild' (my kitcar)

Mainly ive just tried to steer clear of its being called 'the westy' as that reminds me of shity yappy dogs. But some still refer to it as that.

The landrover lot seam to go into it big style
Within the uni off road club we have host of names

But it seems less common with kits.

Personally i think its down to just not have anything to compenstate for.

Daniel

locoR1 - 28/4/10 at 05:54 PM

Ive never named mine although it gets called lots of names when things don't go to plan

Looking forward to flak monkey reply to this expecting lots of F*&%%$$*%* in his post

55ant - 28/4/10 at 06:01 PM

the mondeo is a variety of things- mondy, land barge pingu (W117 PGU) but hes normaly referd to as the vicar.

the indy doesnt really have a name, swmbn calls him cleme (clementine - (bright orange kit))

i think names for cars are cool especialy when they have a back story

David Jenkins - 28/4/10 at 06:10 PM

My wife calls my car "The Frog" 'cos it looks like it's got big bulging eyes...

big-vee-twin - 28/4/10 at 06:32 PM

james h - 28/4/10 at 06:43 PM

Surprised no-one has mentioned 'Brum'.

All the girls I have shown immediately say 'oh that looks sweet, just like Brum!' And now the name has stuck unfortunately.

b16mts - 28/4/10 at 06:51 PM

another vote for brum!! though it hugely pee's me off if i'm honest.

really need to ditch the big chrome headlamps in favour of some domintor style ones.

anyone fancy a stoneleigh swap shop??

Martin

iti_uk - 28/4/10 at 07:02 PM

I've had "pisskits" (Pug 106 - the numberplate almost read like hat)

My Clio never got a name.

My MX5 is either "Killjoy" (number plate endinge KLJ), "the matchbox" (my girlfriend's nam for it) or "KLMX5" when I talk about it on the net.

I don't deliberately name ay of my cars, it's all more "organic" than that...

Chris

mistergrumpy - 28/4/10 at 07:25 PM

Living up to my name I suppose but no because it's a car, not a person and definitely not a "he" or "she".

Danozeman - 28/4/10 at 07:26 PM

Mines kinda called the purple peril which kinda stems from the yellow motorbike i had which everyone at my work called the yellow peril.

The other cars are the Borat for the bora and i cant say what the bmw is called as it may offend. Begins with The ***

Dont really call them names though just money pits.

RichardK - 28/4/10 at 07:29 PM

Mines called "The Bruise" as the kids asked me early on in the build what colour it was going to be so I said "Black and Blue" and my little girl replied with "What like a bruise" and it kind of stuck!

Cheers

Rich

clairetoo - 28/4/10 at 07:47 PM

Mines called Eric - cuz the reg is ERC...............

Used to have a renault 5 known as Sooty - something to do with a bit of regular banter between friends which went something like ;
"Cheers ears" - "thats how it goes nose" - "F***k off Noddy" ............... and so my car became Sooty...........
I never did work that one out

My 66 427 Big block Corvette with side pipes was called "FAT ALBERT" from the Bill Cosby scits.

Dangle_kt - 28/4/10 at 10:54 PM

the "baked bean" - it is orange I supose!

loggyboy - 28/4/10 at 11:41 PM

Wife named her first Nova 'Nilly', so the reincarnate of that became Nilly as well.
Every nova we see gets called a nilly, unless the reg letter spells an altertive (Ie a Greg nova will be a gilly)

It also got refered to as 'the beast' thanks to its 'sleeper' Qcar antics.

One of my other Novas was 'Breezer' as it was 'Breeze blue'

Since then shes not named any other of her or my cars.

Dale - 29/4/10 at 01:47 AM

Likewise, my wife calls it "The Girlfriend".

Vindi_andy - 29/4/10 at 08:53 AM

Mine is called Tango (for obvious reasons) or "the Toy"

Colleague from spain calls it Vandy as in Vindicator Andy

And the girls at the dance school call in "the carrot on wheels"
